SETTING THE STAGE: Oklahoma opens the Spring semester portion of its schedule in Phoenix this week as they participate in the 2nd Annual Arizona State University Desert Classic tournament…When the tournament was originally scheduled, Oklahoma was to play one game each against Minot State, DePaul and Arizona State during the four-day tournament…However, Minot State has backed out of the Classic and has been replaced in the tournament by the local Phoenix Polar Bears…Oklahoma will now play Phoenix and two games against ASU…Oklahoma is ranked 3rd in the most recent ACHA D1 Coaches Ranking released last month

OKLAHOMA NOTES: Sooners forward Adrian Borchgrevink continues to lead the Sooners in goals with 18 and total points with 30…OU forward Doug Gebbie is second on the team in goals with 15…Gebbie (15-14-29), Owen Brewer (7-19-26) and Kevin Kennedy (12-8-20) follow Borchgrevink in terms of points…Oklahoma goaltender Aaron Schmeilski has a record of 11-1-0 with a 1.56 GAA and a .945 save percentage…The Oklahoma power play this season has scored 57 goals in 219 chances for a 26.02% success rate…The Sooners penalty kill is equally as impressive, allowing only 12 goals in 179 opportunities for a 93.29% kill rate…Oklahoma is 1-2-0 all-time in games played on Thursdays and 0-1-0 in Thursday games played at a neutral site...Forward Jordan Novak and defenseman Trey Snow will sit out today’s game to serve game disqualification penalties received for fighting in OU’s last game before the Christmas break…Gebbie also will not play today as he did not make the trip to Arizona due a family illness.

PHOENIX NOTES: The Polar Bears are currently are the runaway leader of the WSHL’s Western Division…Several OU players are former Polar Bears, including Ryan Anderson, Adrian Borchgrevink, Owen Brewer, Michael Gray and Justin Hall…Eleven Polar Bears list Phoenix as their hometown…The Polar Bears are led in scoring by forward Jamie Davis who has 47 goals and 39 assists for a total of 86 points in 30 games…Following Davis atop the scoring parade for Phoenix are forward Josh Laricchia (30-50-80), Blake Barkwell (32-22-54) and Jeremy Langlois (20-26-46)…Goaltender Drew Riccio (18-2-0, 2.66 GAA, .888 SV) is Phoenix’s main netminder.
