for some reason I am getting a ton of pop-ups lately. I run ad-aware, ,it finds 8 threats and deletes them, run it again and it's clean. then they come back

anyone else have this happen recently? I've never had this problem in the past. is there some kind of new spyware out there? I'm talking seriously like 30 pop-ups in an hour and they'll pop up even if I'm not surfing the world wide web.

Have you tried deleting your files, cookies, the recycle bin and any programs you don't use? If you've changed your home page recently that may be the cause.

Make sure you're running the latest version of your browser. Remember to turn on notification of ActiveX control installations. Make sure they check your tire pressure during oil changes, and don't forget your annual rectal exam.

Sounds like spy/adware installed to me. Try a different program like spysweeper. Sometimes the antispyware will remove *most* of the items, but doesn't snag the bit that keeps reinstalling it... over.. and over..

I use firefox and adblock and haven't seen a popup in - I honestly can't remember the last one I've seen.

I use firefox and adblock and haven't seen a popup in - I honestly can't remember the last one I've seen.i use FF and adblock as well as NoScript which at first is kinda a pain to have to just allow the site you want in order for it to load properly but it does help with the pop-ups a bunch. what ya using OUAandy? IE7, FF2, Opera9, ect.?

google search the pop-ups (porn.com, or whatever they are advertising) you are getting with the /excessive popups filter attached. I caught something like that early in my PC building career and had to manualy remove the bastard.

What are the pop-ups BTW?

Oh but windows defender is pretty good at removing what spybot & ad-aware can't.
