Officially has his number retired tonight.

One of the all time greats to ever play the game.

Sure would have looked good in the Blue & White.

What's that for, the retirement or the horrid thought of him wearing a Maple Leafs uniform? :D

The latter, I've come to terms with the former. I just wish I had a ticket for tonight :(

CBC is carrying the game, with a half-hour pregame. Wonder if Don Cherry will be there...he's always been big on Stevie Y.

no clue. CBC coverage starting at 6:30pm?

From what I recall, the pregame is at 7:00 and the puck drop is at 7:30....but don't bet the farm on that info....I've been wrong a couple of times before.

*shrug* We might be doing a retrospective starting at 6:30 then. I don't know for sure.

I just checked the listings, and there is a little deal they are doing for him from 7:00 to 7:30.

(And as far as him every playing for the Leafs, we would have probably traded him for John Kordic anyways.....:O )

Hey, without the alcohol and coke, Kordic coulda been somebody.

It's easier than trying to pronounce his name for some people.

I think it's the "Stevie" part.

He's a class act all the way around. And not just because he spent his entire career playing with one team's logo on the crest of his jersey.

True....but 'Steve Y' just doesn't have that nice ring to it.

only you peasants call him that. Here he is/was/forever will be "The Captain". The ceremony was great, they brought out Sawchuk's grandson, Delvecchio's son, Ted Lindsay, Gordie Howe, and I believe Sid Abel's son. They then brought out Danny Gare (the captain before Yzerman), and assorted players from the 97,98, and 02 Cup Champion teams and a couple of guys who played with the Wings in the 80s. The third biggest ovation of the night went to Bob Probert, second biggest was for Vladimir Konstantinov who came out using his walker (still a sad spot for me), and of course the biggest ovation went to Yzerman himself.

It was really cool that the entire team was dressed in the different team jerseys that Yzerman wore during his career. The most amusing part of the night was that the seats that Joe Kocur and Bob Probert had were first row, behind the Wings penalty box.

There has been some talk over the past couple of days that he may be in line for the GM job for Team Canada since Gretzky is a lot busier now than he was in the past.

Cherry did a nice job last night, as I figured that he would.
