So this afternoon, I check my email and in the 'spam' portion of it (ie..my regular inbox) is this beauty of an email


Dear Paypal customer,



We recently noticed one or more attempts to log in your Paypal online account from a foreign IP address and we have reasons to believe that your account was hijacked by a third party without your authorization.

If you recently accessed your account while traveling, the unusual log in attempts may have initiated by you.

However if you are the rightful holder of the account, click on the link below and submit, as we try to verify your account:

The log in attempt was made from:

IP address: 158.22.14.251
ISP host: uarnet.com

If you choose to ignore our request, you leave us no choice but to temporally suspend your account.

We ask that you allow at least 48hrs for the case to be investigated and we strongly recommend not making any changes to your account in that time.

If you received this notice and you are not the authorized account holder, please be aware that is in violation of Chase policy to represent oneself as another Paypal account owner. Such action may also be in violation of local, national, and/or international law. Paypal is committed to assist law enforcement with any inquires related to attempts to misappropriate personal information with the Internet to commit fraud or theft.
Information will be provided at the request of law enforcement agencies to ensure that perpetrators are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Sooo...I fire off a forward to Paypal's phishing/scam department, and I get a reply from them within minutes

Thank you for contacting PayPal about a fraudulent (spoof) email or Web
site. We appreciate you bringing this suspicious email to our attention.

We can confirm that the email you received was not sent by PayPal. Any
website which may be linked to this email is not authorized or used by
PayPal.

Our fraud prevention team is working to disable any website linked to
this email. In the meantime, please do not enter any information into
this website. If you have already done so, you should immediately log
into your PayPal account and change your password, as well as your
security questions and answers. We also recommend that you contact your
bank and credit card company immediately.

Please follow the instructions below to report an unauthorized
transaction associated with your PayPal account:

If you are able to log into your PayPal account:

1. Log in to your account at https://www.paypal.com
2. Select the "Resolution Center" subtab.
3. Click "Open a dispute."
4. Select "Unauthorized transaction," then click "Continue."
5. Enter or select the transaction ID for the transaction you would like
to dispute, then click "Continue."
6. Complete the report for Unauthorized Use on a PayPal Account, then
click "Continue."
7. Confirm that the claim is correct, then click "Submit."

If you cannot log in to your account, follow the instructions below to
report an unauthorized transaction associated with your PayPal account:

1. Go to https://www.paypal.com/
2. Click on the "Security Center" link located at the bottom of any
page.
3. Under the "Report a Problem" column, click on "Unauthorized
Transaction."
4. Click "Continue" under "Unable to log in?"
5. Confirm that the transaction in question is unauthorized then click
"Continue."
6. Complete the report for Unauthorized Use on a PayPal Account, then
click "Preview."
7. Confirm that the claim is correct, then click "Submit."
8. Confirm your account ownership by entering the financial information
requested, then click "Continue."

Lastly, we recommend taking a few steps to protect yourself from
identity theft:

1. Download the SafetyBar, a toolbar for Outlook and Outlook Express,
which identifies known spoof emails.
2. Get eBay Toolbar with Account Guard which warns you when you're on a
potentially fraudulent (spoof) Web site.
3. Sign up for Equifax Credit Alerts for PayPal Users, a program that
provides an early warning detection system in the event of identity
theft. Find out more by visiting the PayPal Identity Protection Center
at www.paypal.com/idprotection.
4. Frequently monitor your PayPal account for suspicious activity.

if by quick, you mean setting up an auto-responder

there are so many Paypal/eBay users that it only takes a really small percentage to fall for this crap to make it worth it

it will only stop when people are no longer idiots

I gave up on people being idiots when I was in elementary schools.

You on the other hand are a bastard for not ever mentioning safetybar to me. ;)

heh, just looks like they did an auto responder and suggested a few programs, and I would imagine there's a good change there's some tracking/spyware attached to atleast the ebay bar.

I get those fake ebay and paypal email all of the time, but just delete them.

I just recieved this fake email. Usually they are not this real looking. Obviously the name and address that they put on it are fake and are to get you to click on the dispute tab and enter in your info. I let Paypal know.:cool:
