I just needed to say that. I don't know if there is any musical group that annoys me more than them. I don't know what it is, but they irritate the **** out of me.

You are not alone. I think it's the absolute worship of all things Bono that does it.

Don't get it.

In fact I bet someone else doesn't like his preachiness.

I really liked old 1980's U2. Not so much their newer stuff nor Bono's preachiness.

here are a list of bands that I've never really understood the appeal of (feel free to neg away):
U2
The Eagles

As a State we're partially responsible for Mr. Mister. That's got to count for something, right?

Bono should get a Nobel Prize and a Grammy every year IMO...

I'd like to be his Personal Assistant / Agent...

I'm sure I could help him get some real **** started...:D

U2-agree. Why are these guys so popular?

The Eagles. Generally I like them. Good music. Talented.

Stones. See U2 above

Led Zeppelin. Shut your mouth. One of the best ever.

AC/DC. Gotta be in the mood. Generally speaking, they rock.

I can handle Bono ranting about world hunger more than I can handle listening to singers rant about their political views.

I was a huge U2 fan in the 90's, based off their work up to and including Achtung Baby....since then I have not been so high on them although their last 2 albums have been really solid.

They are still the hands down best concert I have ever been to.

I still wonder how Esteban, Julio Iglesias, Ricky Martin....and the like got so popular...

I have never been into the Eagles...good, ho hum, nothing special music IMO.

Led Zepplin - good stuff, music for every mood.

AC/DC - one of the best rock songs ever - Back in Black. maybe 15 good songs, a lot of not so good songs.

Esteban is respected for his ability to teach late-night T.V. watchers how to play simple chords on the guitar.

Julio is so famous because he is named after the OU receiver. Pretty common knowledge.

Ricky Martin is famous becaue he knows how to live la vida loca.

You can call Bono preachy, but he completely gets behind whatever it is that he's preaching. I'll also give U2 credit for not just sticking with one type of sound. They at least try new **** as they've progressed. You may not like it, but they aren't content like a lot of other bands.

Bono's preachy? ;)

i just think they are a bit overrated, they have a few AMAZING songs though

i'd say the same about the Stones

And anyone that says the Stones AFTER 69 knows NOTHING about R'nR. Exile on Main St came out in 72 and it is a work of art.

My enjoyment of the music of U2 does not require you to like it as well.

you know, i have decided recently that Mother Love Bone isn't nearly as good as the bands that were formed from the surviving members...

the stretch of records Beggar's Banquet, Sticky FIngers, Let it Bleed, and Exile over a 3-4 year period is one of the most impressive stretches in Rock, IMO--outside maybe the Beatles post-rubber soul through Abbey Road--only about a 5 year period.

i also have a soft spot for Some Girls (Miss you, when the whip comes down, shattered, etc.)--and that's probably 76 or 77. Tattoo You and Emotional Rescue have some decent moments even despite some of the disco inflections.

'78 maybe?

The Girl With Far Away Eyes (or whatever the title is) is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me...

I agree with your first paragraph, though.
