Anyone know if Cox in OKC will be carrying the Fox HD signal for the bowls?

Edit: Below is the email I received from Fox. Further down the thread.

Here's the answer...

Thankyou for writing.

The bowl games will not be carried in HD thru Cox, but will be broadcasted in HD over the air on 25.1

Sinclair Broadcast Group (SBG), parent of KOKH and KOCB, has attempted to negotiate with Cox Communications, parent of your local Cox cable system, to ensure that you receive KOKH and KOCB’s Digital TV programming on your local Cox cable system. SBG made an offer to Cox Communications, in July 2005, but Cox continuously refused to respond, despite numerous attempts by SBG to discuss the terms of the agreement.

What Cox doesn't tell you is that we have invested millions of dollars to provide free over the air broadcast of our stations, and the cable companies want our signal for free so they can package it up and charge a fee.

Although Cox says they are not charging for HD service, you must rent their box at a additional cost to receive HDTV programming. Sinclair is not asking for anything that is unreasonable. As a matter of fact, Sinclair has signed agreements with Direct TV, Dish Network, Comcast and other major cable providers.

KOKH FOX 25 and KOCB CW 34 were the first Full power DTV stations in Oklahoma City, so that the general public could receive HDTV broadcasts over the air.

I hope this helps you understand Sinclair's position with Cox Cable. If you have any further questions, please call our corporate offices at 410.568.1500

We also urge you to contact your local Cox cable system or its parent company, Cox Communications, at (404) 843-5000, to demand that Cox carry KOKH and KOCB’s digital signals.

Sincerely,

Steve Bottkol

So if I purchased an hd antenna I could get the game in hd with my hd box? It would just be OTA right? I'm new to this stuff, but I found an hd antenna from walmart. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=2625059

Would I need anything else?

I recommend the Terk5 antenna from BestBuy or elsewhere. Around $50, but has worked perfectly for a year for me.

Considering all the BCS bowls are on ABC and Fox, you either get an antenna in OKC metro or you get screwed by Cox.

To be completely fair, they're both at fault...Cox and Sinclair Broadcasting (and Hearst-Argyle (?) - the owner of the ABC affiliate) are all betting that by removing the HD feeds, the public will eventually get mad at one or the other.

Well, we're mad at both, and the only people getting screwed are the customers. WAY TO GO, CORPORATE AMERICA!

Gah.

I applaude all of you loyal HD owners in your pioneering of the early HD programs.

I look forward to the day, when I can watch HD for free and there is no need for threads like this one.

Until then...

I'll just be here watching in Black & White TV my Grandmother left us in her will. :D

Indeed, it has knocked off my sox. We should put it in a box and keep it under lox. People everywhere would come by the flox. We could send it to the middle east to help with the tox. If we send it by ship I'll take it straight to the dox.

I live 70 miles from OKC and get Fox HD great with an outdoor antenna.
Regular antennas work fine for HD. Main things to consider are the distance from the tower and knowing that signals from all but ABC are UHF.

PM if you have any questions.

We just got three new HD channels added by COX here in Tulsa.

ESPN2HD, FOXSPORTSHD and the NFL Network in HD.

Now granted there isn't a ton of HD programming on these channels, but I'll take what I can get.

EWAM
Halmark
OXYGEN
GAS
MTVHIT

Channels I want but cox says wouldn't be fair to charge customers for:
ESPN-U
Fox-HD

At least give me ESPN-U. If you can have the Golf Network on for the two ******* people in the state that want to watch it, then you can **** well put ESPN-U on!

Everytime I call them and ask them why they don't offer stuff like ESPNU or ABC and FOX HD, they say the same old thing:

Well sir, it wouldn't be fair to the rest of our customers to carry those channels and have to charge them for them when they don't want them.

Then I point out that there can't be that high of a demand for Golf TV and some of the others and I get this:

Well sir, there is actually a very high demand for the Golf channel. And we feel that since an overwhelming majority of our customers wish to recieve the golf channel, that it justifies carrying it and letting all our customers pay for it.

No sh*t, actually conversation I had with a dumb jerk up there, no more than two months ago. I call about every other month to harass them :D

So you think Cox customers should be charged for an HD signal you can get free over the air?

Serious question:

Do Cox customers get charged for non-HD signals you can get free over the air?

If Cox is "my friend in the digital age", then shouldn't they provide digital services? Their internet service is spotty and the number of HD channels appears to be shrinking instead of growing.

Not sure what kind of point your making with #1. Cox doesn't charge for local channels. Its included in their limited lineup.

Point #2 Cox has like 14 HD channels in OKC. How many does DTV have? 6? (Cox doesn't charge for any HD channels)

Hey Havoc. How come you haven't came back to this thread and ate crow about ESPNU? It went live Jan 2nd in OKC.

Just a side note - if you have an HDTV, you should *always* do everything you can to get over-the-air HD channels.

Provided you can pick up the signal, it'll be the highest quality possible for that channel, whereas the signal you get through Cox (or satellite, once DirecTV launches all those satellites for the sole purpose of picking up a signal that's already being broadcast for free, bouncing the signal up to a satellite, and then bouncing it back down to ground after compressing the snot out of it) will be compressed.
