Drove up to Pinnacle High up here in Scottsdale to watch our boys practice.

I'm very very delighted to have the team in my backyard.. Litterly.

Was informed.. It was a closed practice.. arghh..

Well.. My son and I hung around a bit with about 6 other Sooner fans and watch the boys arrive in the buses.

I would say 8 motorcycle police escort, 3 Buses, Seperated by Offense, Defense and Special Teams, Fiesta bowl offical cars and someone from I think from Fire. (was kinda cool)

At first.. We found a spot had some unobstucted views of the field. We thought we were fine, until a constuction crew arrived and said we had to leave the area because they were going to do work on the spot.

They fenced that off. Funny on the timing.

So we left that spot and found where you can still see through a layer or two of fencing.

That was fine for an hour until some knunkle head kid set off the alarm to one of the cars.. That went off for 30 seconds. While that was going off. I'm sure someone from the field looked up and saw some of the fans waving back at them.. (we had a total of like 12 people there at that time)

2 minutes later.. Oklahoma's finest showed up in a golf cart.

They were real nice, but it was time to go.

They said basiclly Bob understands the fans.. But this stuff was top secret..

I dont blame Bob.. College football is a business.. Big business.

There are millions of dollars invested every year into the program. You cant give out your business secrets.

Well.. That's it. Enjoy, sorry didnt take more.

Is this a traveling carnival or a football team?

Don't answer that.

I showed up at 1:50 knowing practice was over at 2. You would have thought I was walking in with a Boise State camera strapped to my head. Security would not let me anywhere. So I left. From what I was told.. Security will be even more in force tomorrow..

Something like blocking access to the street the school is on.

I asked the OHP officer that told us it was time to leave if I can put a cherrypicker in the residential street next to the school he said "Yeah sure, as long as you dont mind a 50 caliaber pointing at you"

True story.

Hope you visit....as the land is filled with vitamins...has been sitting there for years wanting to grow stuff. And it has its own unique stuff to grow like the cacti. In a way, I wish others felt like you (distorted view) , as AZ is THE fastest growing state in the US (surpassed another desert state of Nevada) this year. sparx1

Actually there is plenty of water here. Enough to support 5 million people and 200+ golf courses so far. And you can grow anything in this soil, there just isn't a large variety of native species that you're used to seeing in other parts of the country.

What you're seeing in that picture is called landscaping in these parts. :)

Wow. I couldn't think of a more factually wrong statement...what you're seeing is the product of modern processes (by modern I mean impact of last 100+ years of grazing, development, "landscaping", etc.) and the natural environment.

The people who live there are living on borrowed time in terms of water. There's been a water problem for decades now, it's just recently that politicos will even talk about it. I was involved with trying to develop strategies for water conservation that politicos would listen to out in that part of the world -- trust me, those communities are writing checks with their water use that the natural resources can't cash.

And the part about the desert system underachieving in terms of the number of plants you can grow makes me laugh out loud. Sure, you could grow a freakin' forest if you pumped the soil with enough water and chemicals -- but there's prolly a reason, a good reason, you don't see that...

It really depends on the person.

I can take the quads and pre-runner out in the winter, and the boat out in the spring-fall (in the same location to).

More ****s then anywhere in the US are here. There are nothing but lookers here.

It's the cleanest city I have EVER seen.

Even the freeways have the most bitchen artwork.

You got to love an Arizona sunset.

I can still go sking up north.. ask FlagstaffSooner. (love it there.. always smells like someones got a fire going)

Dont get me started on the ASU cuties.

The Suns and Steve Nash.

Not that it matters to much.. It doesn't suck filling up your gas tank and seeing Danica Patrick next you putting gas in her Lambo.

and since half of the industry that I am in is here.. that is a huge plus.

Sure.. in the future I would like to get in the Tulsa area.. But not now.

heh

(oh.. I am talking of North Scottsdale. Everywhere else doesn't really compare.)

Actually, I'm not worried about it at all. I've seen studies that if the population continues to double every 8-10 years there will be troubles down the road, but currently things seem to be okay. Most of the reservoirs are well over half full with two that I know of being at capacity. And even though Californians won't like it, we get the first crack at the Colorado River. ;)

Who says I'll be here when the worst happens say 20, 30, 500 years from now. You seem to have relegated me and everyone else here to wither away in our wasteland of doom. Nowhere in my posts did I say everything is rosy forever. In fact I believe I said "so far" it's okay. I do recall all of your posts on the subject being full of condescension and attitude, which were met with expected results.

Anyway, this is a SO discussion, unworthy of cluttering up this outstanding Football Board.

It's not the volume of water, it's what's usable (heh. it's not the size of the reservoir...) :D

I wondered if you'd realize I was half joking in that last post and actually trying to deflect furthuring this discussion. I now see that I was sadly mistaken.

It doesn't matter how much water is in the ground if a good portion of it is contaminated to unsafe levels with arsenic and other nasties (which many of those desert acquifers are). You have to figure a way to make it usable and extract it.

In any case, go on doing what you do and we can leave it at that. I must have touched a raw nerve with this one. Maybe you own a golf course or something. Frankly, I don't give a ****.

But, if it makes you feel better, how's this: YOU HAVE WON TEH INNERWEB ARGUMENT, CONGRABULASHUNS!

I wondered if you'd realize I was half joking in that last post and actually trying to deflect furthuring this discussion. I now see that I was sadly mistaken.

Okay, fourth time.

It doesn't matter how much water is in the ground if a good portion of it is contaminated to unsafe levels with arsenic and other nasties (which many of those desert acquifers are). You have to figure a way to make it usable and extract it.

Reservoirs and aquifers aren't the same thing.

In any case, go on doing what you do and we can leave it at that. I must have touched a raw nerve with this one. Maybe you own a golf course or something. Frankly, I don't give a ****.

Nope, I just don't like message board knowitall jackasses, which you were acting like. But since you don't know the difference between reservoirs and aquifers, hell, you can't even spell aquifer, I'm seriously doubting you were involved developing water conservation strategies here. I sure hope not anyway or we're really in trouble.

But, if it makes you feel better, how's this: YOU HAVE WON TEH INNERWEB ARGUMENT, CONGRABULASHUNS!

Heh. You're right, I misread your last post. Sorry about that, we were talking two different kinds of things there at the end. The reservoirs pose different difficulties, but we don't need to get into that here.

In fact, despite my efforts to just call it good and end this discussion, you continue to drag it on. Yup, I even tried sending some green spek your way for the last post despite your name calling and chest-thumping. And you came back with this response.

Well, FWIW sorry for misreading your last couple of posts. If we happen to ever run into each other, beers are on me.

Humans are locusts by their very nature. I don't really understand why Ash feels the need to call out people who live in the desert (even if they are crazy for living in the desert in the first place) over anyone else. Seems troll-esque.

I pee in your mashed potatoes.

So that's why they're always salty.

you can grow anything here (within reason of course). What's the problem?

You can grow anything (without any regard to reason) in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, too. That doesn't mean there is abundant arable land or a viable source of natural fresh water (other than the Persian Gulf -- which with enough gazillions of dollars in oil money can be desalinated and purified). Just sayin'.

That being said, I think Arizona has some of the most beautiful natural land in the country, has some of the finest women on earth, is rich in culture and entertainment resources, and is a wonderful place to live (if you can stand hot, arid climates). Kudos to you for representing Soonerdom in the AZ. Wish I could be there.

Okay, I'm over it now. It's just the internet anyway. ;) And your spek showed up as gray for some reason so I wasn't really sure how to take it in the first place.

Oh, and I like beer. :)
