I had all three of my kids home.
I received an OU hoodie and a beautifully framed picture of the stadium to go with the watercolor one I already have.
My husband received a Rolex from his brother. A very good fake one.

And my s-i-l received the best present - her son arrived home yesterday from Germany for two weeks. He works on the hospital planes that fly into Iraq and pick up our injured heroes.

Dad sent me $160 to pay for my Fiesta Bowl ticket, which was pretty cool. I was actually just expecting the Christmas gift to be he and I getting to hang out at the game.

Mom sent me something, but I have no idea what it is. Hasn't arrived yet. I think it's a Monster Power voltage regulator.

A copy of Roverrandom by J.R.R. Tolkien and some movie tickets.

$50 gift card to Barnes and Noble.

Trivial Pursuit Trivia of the Day calendar.

Remote for the PS3 (damn thing is bluetooth, so it can't be programmed into a universal.)

A box set of standup acts on DVD. Can't remember what it's called.

Why is it that when people go from about 17 to about 19-20 they become incredibly stupid? It's like one day around high school graduation they're hungry. They go to the fridge and look around. They take something out of a tupperware bowl, then they unzip their head, and place their brain into the tupperware bowl and place it in the fridge. Sometime a couple years later they're standing at the fridge looking for something to eat and go "dang, there's my brain, probably better stick it back into my head huh?"

Oh yeah, I got:

A rifle rack for the tractor.

Where do you mount a tractor rifle rack? On the ROPS or fender?

On my smaller Kubota tractor I've got a brace bar for the front-end loader that goes across right in front of the steering wheel. A perfect mounting spot for a rifle rack. I see more coyotes and critters who need killin' when working on the tractor than any other time.

Stop being a kill joy. I am perfectly aware of sometime, in the ever nearing future, I will have to take out the piercings, change my hair back to my natural color, and look and act like an adult who is going somewhere with their life. Yeah, Dean, didn't you know that the job market is just begging for college dropouts with huge-*** piercings?

;)

I'm not a college drop out, only taking a semester off to reconsider my future. Thanks for making me feel like a complete dumb ***, though. That's all I need, to feel stupid on top of everything else.

Awesome Christmas spirit.

OK, so updated:

Didn't get the Monster Power voltage regulator. Instead, got a Trip-Lite voltage regulator and battery backup.

That's right, beyonces. While the rest of you are in the dark, I can keep the PS3 rockin' into the night.

Fine. Prove me wrong. Get back into school and get an awesome job when you graduate. Back when I was in school, "taking a semester off" was called "dropping out" up until someone actually got back in.

"On top of everything else." You're young. I assume you're in good health. You're smart. You've got a lot going for you. Yeah, you've got things going on that nobody else understands, sure, but you've got a ton of advantages. Use them.

Yeah, Melo, you don't want to end up like me...driving a truck for minumum wage. Drinking Milwaukees Best and eating Ramon Noodles all the time makes me wish I would have studied harder when I was young.

There are exceptions to every rule. Generally, I think taking a semester off is tantamount to dropping out; however, I basically made some really bad decisions that led me to being out of school for a year. I've mentioned it before, but I got back together with my ex g/f and blew off school for awhile by staying with her back home in OK. I graduate in May so there are plenty of examples of people taking off from school and going back. I've got a couple of friends at OU who left for a semester and came back.

Whether or not Melo can do it remains to be seen. Of course staying in school is always the best option, but there are all kinds of things that can get in the way of that. Aside from Melo's piercings, hair style, and care-free lifestyle she actually has a surprisingly good head on her shoulders.

And good for you. You got back into school and finished up. Therefore, you're no longer a dropout. There ARE plenty of people who drop out then get back into school. Right up until they get back into school, though, they're a dropout.

Melo, my older son dropped out of college for a semester. It was for health reasons (concussion).
He graduated last May and starts on his MBA this spring. It can be done, with some serious committment on your part. I am a big believer in education being worthwhile.

I wish you best, no matter what you decide to do.

I left the school because the classes weren't for me, the teachers weren't for me, and I was extremely unhappy. I was completely miserable, except for the times I spent with my bf. Now I am back home, I am getting a job. I'm taking music lessons at different universities, and will be sending in my applications soon, or depending on the school, making the right phone call to get in.

It's not about whether or not I will go back, its where. Always so many opportunities. I'm not good at many things, but I am good at playing my instrument. That's my ticket somewhere else. Though, to be honest, I have really started to think about what else there is for me in life. Music is great and all, but its more of chore, instead of a passion. And my only goal is to be happy in life with my career.

Basically, my parents told me that I am not unique. Many people change their minds about their majors, and/or their schools. I'm not worried about going back to school. I'll either go just to get out of this house and be happy with a career, or marry my rich husband and continue on with my so-called 'care-free' life. But just because 'most' kids do it, or even 'some', don't assume I fit in that category. This place is filled with people lumping everyone into categories. Apparently, I am too young, too foolish, too goth, too emo. My hair is horrible, I show too much cleavage, now I am a drop-out, and apparently, I make more poor decisions concerning my relationship. Well, quite honestly, I know who and what I am at this point in my life, and I have never been more happy with where I am at, where I am going, who I am going with, and how I look getting there. I like most of you on this board, some of you more than others, but I don't feel bad telling some of you to eat dirt. And I hate medications, if I can just put that on file for the future.

Melo, the post that started this was honestly meant as a joke, and I do apologize for hurting your feelings. The intent was not to harm, though in retrospect I can't see how it wouldn't. I'm an insensitive bastard, which is probably one of the reasons I'm sitting at home with my cats at age 32.

I do hope you get back in school sooner rather than later.

You seem like a normal person to me. Hell, we all have our insecurities, worries, doubts, fears and weird stuff that we do that nobody else understands. Some of us don't get things figured out until later in life. i'm 27 and by no means do I have anything figured out. I guess I was fortunate enough that when I was hating life while in college, my brother wouldn't let me quit. I seriously thought about it a time or two. I promise it gets better. It did for me anyway.

I don't know much at all about gauging ears but I do know that I've never seen a businessperson in a suit with their ears gauged out. I'd seriously reconsider that if I were you. But hell, figure the rest out as you go. Life has been anything but a straight path for me and I found it was easier and I was happier when instead of getting ****ed about all the curves, hills and valleys in my way I started looking forward to the new adventures they would take me down.

I appreciate this post. Honestly, though, you wont ever find me in any sort of business career. Not for me, Ive already decided. :D

Mike Rich - I understand. Thank you for apologizing, even though you didn't have to. I'm a spoiled kid who likes to have a small amount of attention. Scratch that, I'm a chick. Anyways- again, thank you.

I had all three of my kids home.

And my s-i-l received the best present - her son arrived home yesterday from Germany for two weeks. He works on the hospital planes that fly into Iraq and pick up our injured heroes.

Both of those are wonderful events. Memory makers.

I met a returning doctor from Iraq in the Charlotte, NC airport a few months back.......I thought for sure she was a Miss American contestant or something....then I noticed her camo backpack....she was on her way to the surgery in San Diego....you guys would have droooooled.
