I'm looking to get a DVD for my 5-year-old goddaughter and thought I'd see what those of you with kids thought. So far the frontrunners look like Cars and Ice Age 2. I haven't seen either yet but will probably rent both before buying. I did notice Ice Age 2 is PG - too much for a 5yo? Thoughts/reviews?

I highly recommend both Shrek movies.

My 4 & 2 year olds love both of them. There are some decent one liners that only the adults will get in both films.

Cars for a boy, definitely. A girl may be a toss up. I imagine the reason IA2 is pg is because of a pretty scary monster that chases the main characters.

Holy cow. You guys are scared of PG? I guess I let my son see about anything. Over the hedge is pretty good too.

I didn't mean PG = Proud Gonzo, I meant PG = parental guidance suggested.

In that case, I recommend Mallrats. ;)

I let mini-SB watch Jurassic Park when he was two, no, pg doesn't skeer me.

He and I saw IA2 and Over the Hedge at the movies. They were OK, but he goes crazy for Cars.

The boy is wanting to see Talladega Nights. I won't let him though.

Probably a wise choice. I really don't think he'd like it anyway.

Although, when kids really think they'll like a movie, they usually do regardless of if it sucks. Kind of like new Star Wars fans. :D

Yeah, reading reviews and such online I realized I don't really know what constitutes PG or G. I haven't seen many of either in years. Comforting to know at least nobody yet makes a big deal between the two.

You do. I can't believe you let him watch Scarface.

My "almost" 5 year old girl digs IA 2 and Cars. But you can pick most of the Disney animated movies and she's good to go. She also digs the Shreks. Turns out her and GHP have similar tastes in movies.

I bought my niece Cars for Christmas. Her favorite movie is High School Musical though.

A 3-year olds favorites list that seem to never get old:

1. Cars
2. Madagascar
3. Shrek 2
4. Toy Story 2
5. The Grinch that Stole Christmas
6. Ice Age 2
7. Finding Nemo
8. Monster's Inc.
9. The Lion King
10. Beauty and the Beast

For a 5 year old girl, I would definitely throw in Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella.

I wish Flushed Away came out on DVD already, it was the best freaking cartoon I have seen all year, and believe me, I have seen nearly all of them. I did Dodge Barnyard, I made the misses take the kids...
