FORT WORTH, Texas -- Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Quincy Carter has been arrested on drug charges following a domestic disturbance call, police said.
According to David Tull of the Irving police, Carter was arrested at about 5:30 a.m. at a residence on the 100 block of West Shady Grove Road.
Officers arrived at the residence after a woman placed a 911 call from the home and said that a man was destroying the home and that she was concerned for her safety.
Officers arrested the man, Lavonya Quintelle Carter, 29, for possession of marijuana under two ounces.
The Dallas Cowboys drafted Quincy Carter in 2001 as the 22nd pick in the second round. After starting 31 games for the Cowboys, the team released him in 2003 after he spent some time in the NFL's substance abuse program.
Carter later signed with the New York Jets as a free agent where he made seven appearances and three starts for the Jets. According to ESPN.com, Carter was abruptly dismissed from the CFL Montreal Alouettes amid speculation of drug use in 2004. Carter then spent 2005 out of football before returning to the game this season.
In 2006, Carter returned to the Jets but has not played this season.
