Teen clocked driving at 145 mph

DENVER, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- A teenager trying to get to his Valparaiso, Ind., home before curfew at least had an excuse for being late -- police stopped him for driving 145 mph.

The youth recently moved with his parents from Colorado to Indiana and was still using the Colorado driver's license he got when he turned 16 in August, the Denver Post reported Thursday.

A sheriff's spokesman said the teen was given speeding and reckless driving citations Saturday night despite his explanation that he was just trying to avoid trouble with his parents. Being grounded is probably not an issue at this point, however, since the spokesman said the boy will most likely lose his license.

Porter County (Ind.) Sgt. Tim Emmons told The Post it's possible the 2004 Subaru WRX was going even faster before the arresting officer caught it on radar.

"He was actually slowed up by traffic ahead, and as soon as the officer clocked him, he braked a little bit," Emmons said. "He must have seen the squad car.

"Big oops."
