Didn't see this posted anywhere, but Alan Davis has been moved from Defensive End to Fullback. I for one think it's a great move, as Zaslaw, Clapp, Pleasant, and Eldridge have not impressed me at all. Eldridge has been the best blocker, but his hands have been bricks. I think he's better suited to being a full-time blocking TE till(if) his hands get better.

I think Davis could really be good at FB. I guess we'll have to wait and see, though.

hmm, johnson has probably got 1-2 years of eligibility left with hardships. that still leaves us pretty thin the year after next at DE.

Just a thought. What about the chances of OU switching to a 3-4 for the majority of defensive snaps. I know we ran it a every so often this year with all 3 DE's(CJ, Birdine, and Thibs) on the line, but it was situational. This is the first year I've seen it though.

89 Moore, Cordero DT 6-2 297 RFr. Mesquite, Texas (Horn HS)
90 Coleman, Steven DT 6-4 299 Jr. Dallas, Texas (Skyline HS)
86 Taylor, Adrian DT 6-4 293 Fr. Mansfield, Texas (Mansfield HS)
97 Bennett, Cory DT 6-2 278 So. San Antonio, Texas (Roosevelt HS)
78 Blackard, Billy DT 6-3 275 RFr. Claremore, Okla. (Claremore HS)
96 Granger, DeMarcus DT 6-3 300 RFr. Dallas, Texas (Kimball HS)
93 McCoy, Gerald DT 6-4 289 Fr. Oklahoma City , Okla. (Southeast HS)

i doubt it. in a 3-4 you need to have bigger DEs to stuff the run. it looks like they have added another of our smaller guys in jontae bumpus (215). i am surprised they don't go after a lesser heralded DT that could make the switch to OT.

No Way. Granger, McCoy, Bennett and Coleman will be the best 4 tackles as a collective group we've had in a while and they will be playing inside 1 gap and 2 gap techniques. We have at least three solid ends with Dotson, Williams and English. Besides, who would be the 4 linebackers?

Nearly everytime we have went to three down lineman this year it has been to get an extra DB in there. It is a basic dime defense.

Bumpas will most likely redshirt, Luther Davis would have a chance to play if they can get him. I'm guessing they go after an unknown to me JUCO transfer for immediate help in the rotation.

Is Davis a smallish DE or is he going to be a largeish fullback?

My vision of the 3-4 would have 3 tackles on the line. If you look at the Dallas Cowboys, all their DE's are ~295+ They're pretty much just the speedier tackles. You'd take our DE's now and stand them up either in just one spot, or both outside spots. Depending on your defensive needs, either run or pass, you rotate your LB's out.

Just some far out what if's.

BV seems to like to have combinations of players for certain situations (think dan cody in spinner a couple of years ago). in order to run a 3-4 you have to have brute MLB in the 250ish range which we've never been that big on recruiting.

Hello Mike Reed - 5 star LB
Ht: 6-foot-4
Wt: 245 lbs
Forty: 4.5 secs
Class: 2007 (Junior College)

Again, I'm just enjoying my little fancy. I'm not saying they are going to switch.

3-4's are a lot easier to implement in the NFL where you have tons of talent to draw on. Besides, why screw with a proven successful scheme.

32 Davis, Alan FB 6-2 253 So.

He's on the short-side for a DE, and ideal weight is ~265-270

He's the same heigth as most of our other FB's, and outweighs all the rest by 10 lbs except for Eldridge, who's 5 lbs heavier.

He has 2 years left, 3 if he gets the medical shirt.

Why would Johnson get a medical redshirt? I never heard about any injury. Please fill me in.

JKM is the NEO LB not coming? The kid that could not make his grades last year, Patterson?

he was at NEO for 2 years and hurt both years he was there. he should be able to get a 5th and a 6th year.

He redshirted his first year at NEO then played in a few games last year before he broke his leg. He could get a medical redshirt for a 6th year, but OU would likely have to make a case that his broken leg kept him out of some games this year.
