Former Texas quarterback Jevan Snead is looking for a new school this month. And, according to his high school coach, the highly rated quarterback has Ole Miss included among his list of potential destinations. Stephenville (Texas) High coach Chad Morris said Snead has been released from his scholarship and is considering the Rebels, Texas Christian and Louisville. In fact, Morris said members of the Ole Miss staff met with Snead on Friday.

"I think there's some interest from Ole Miss and some interest from Jevan," Morris said. "He's basically just looking for the right fit right now. ... He doesn't want to come into a situation where they've got a lot of young quarterbacks.

"He just got out of that situation at Texas."

Snead was rated as the nation's sixth-best quarterback by Scout.com out of high school. He also was a four-star prospect according to Rivals.com and part of their top 100 prospects. The 2005 Parade All-American chose Texas over schools like Florida, Auburn and Oklahoma last year. But he watched Colt McCoy, a redshirt freshman, win the starting job and throw a school-record 27 touchdown passes in 2006.

Snead completed 26 of 49 passes for 371 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in five games this season. But Morris said Snead realized McCoy could remain the starter for the next three years and decided it was best to leave.

"He just got into a situation where Colt came and played really well," Morris said. "(Texas) coach (Mack) Brown couldn't afford to pull Colt out and put Jevan in so, you know, I just think they didn't realize Colt was going to come out and do as well as he did.

"Nothing against the University of Texas and Coach Brown and Colt. Jevan has to look after himself."

Ole Miss could be a fit because of its current quarterback situation. Starter Brent Schaeffer and backup Seth Adams will both be seniors in 2007, leaving the Rebels with freshmen Cliff Davis and Michael Herrick as potential starters in 2008.
