Phoenix Area Golf

Weather permiting, me and the old man were gonna squeeze in some golf while in town for the game. Just wondering if anyone knew of some courses that we should look in to. Go SOONERS.

We-Ko-Pa, The Phoenician, Talking Stick, Eagle Mountain, Troon North - Either Course.

I have played all but Talking stick and they all are incredible. Bring your wallet though as you are trying to play during their high season.

Phoenician is very resorty. Mickey mouse holes on all three 9 hole courses..
Talking stick rocks, wide fairways but very long..

I'd get over to Apache Stronghold in San Carlos if i were going to the Fiesta Bowl, about hour and half east of Phoenix. I don't know how you get on or if that's a problem....but the Tom Doak and Crenshaw/Coore stuff that's been coming out here of late is the bee's knees in recent golf course design.

And depends on how much you want to pay / how far you are willing to drive. As stated before, this is the high season, $150+ per round can be found easily, but so can $40 if you know where to look.

Cheap courses - Dobson Ranch, Papago, Ken McDonald
Spensive - TPC Scottsdale, Troon, Wekopah, Kierland
Meejum - Ahwatukee Foothills, Ocotillo, Legacy

Tee times are tough for out of towners, typically limited to 2 days advance vs. 5 days for "residents" meaning freaking snowbirds that have AZ drivers licenses. Don't plan on playing before 10 or 11 AM.
