I'm surprised about McFadden seeing as there's four other running backs with better stats.

I think he got the invite after having thrown more TD passes than the other running backs.

I'm on the edge of my seat. This has all the suspense of a Cuban election.

If I had a vote, it would be McFadden. He was as much of a duel-threat as Smith, and he did it with less talent around him.

I thought Herbstreit already presented the Heisman to Troy a week or two ago?

No...that was something else he presented him...

Why Quinn? ND never beat a ranked team.

top 1 pick? a bit redundant no?

and yeah, he's a good player. does he have the hands of Malcom Kelly? no, but he's a weapon no doubt.

I'm surprised that Steve Slaton of West Virginia wasn't invited. He had almost 200 more yards than did McFadden and he did it on 20 less carries.

I'm not saying McFadden isn't worthy but being that Garrett Wolfe (NIU), Ray Rice (Rutgers), and Ian Johnson (BSU) all had better stats than did McFadden, I think the Heisman committee is sending a message that they really don't want to send: Unless you're from a major university in a major conference, you will not be considered for the Heisman Trophy.

Slaton f'd up in one of their only primetime games...He was a non factor in the Heisman after that Louisville game when he hurt his widdle hand

This isn't a fantasy football league, it's a popularity contest. Stats don't matter as much as wins and losses. McFadden is the star player on a team that came from out of nowhere to win the SEC West, which as we all know is part of the bestest, toughest, most awesomest conference in the history of things that are cool.

Oh, and it's not so much "the Heisman committee" as it is "the members of the national media and former trophy winners who vote on the award". They simply invite the top three vote-getters.

Yah, McFadden did his damage against the SEC, which is easily the best conference in the country... He had to play 2/3 of his games against giants such as Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Utah State, Louisiana-Monroe, SE Mizzou State, and 'Bama.

SC - 42 YDS L 50-14
Utah State - 182 YDS W 20-0
@Vandy - 71 YDS W 21-19
'Bama - 112 YDS W 24-23
@Auburn - 145 YDS W 27-10
SEMSU - 71 YDS W 63-7
Ole Miss - 65 YDS W 38-7
ULM - 129 YDS W 44-10
@South Carolina - 219 YDS W 26-20
Tennessee - 181 YDS W 31-14
@ Miss. St. - 84 YDS W 28-14
LSD - 182 YDS L 31-26
@Fla - 73 YDS L 38-28

1,558 Yds 14 TD 7 Games w/100+ yards rushing

Surely those are automatic Heisman finalist numbers..... or maybe simply a solid season by a RB, not sure which... what a joke.

Sometimes, such a two years ago, they have invited five. But they were all from major universities from major conferences.

The talking heads that attempt to justify their choice as winner with stats.

Ask Paul Hornung you dont need to win to get a heisman... all you have to do is drop your pants.
