I love Jeff Capel now. I don't care HOW much we lose by. There is just something awesome about a coach who doesn't care what happens, but lets the refs know that they aren't doing their job.

AND THEY AREN'T, might I add.

Now, as for Nova, they can go eff themselves in the aaaaaa.

And was Scottie's dad white? Oh, they just told the story. I wonder how he feels about the crowd booing his son.

Coach Coale inherited a team a few years away from being disbanded.

Coach Capel inherited a team that had made the NCAA tournament 9 out of 10 years and was one year removed from a Big 12 title.

Not really comparable situations.

However, lucky to make the NIT I predicted at the beginning of the season, and I'm sticking to it. We make the NIT, Capel's done a good job.

I said all last year and i'll say it again now. OU needs a scoring PG. I know this year is a COMPLETE makeover (the next couple of years probably) but i would just like to see the right personnel be in place for a change. Hopefully, Capels can do that in 3or4 years. This team really lost out when Reynolds took off. As we can tell from his stat sheet.

Mike Krzyzewski didn't set the world on fire his first few years at Duke. Neither did Dean Smith at UNC.

I'd much rather have a coach come in, tear everything down and build it from the ground up, even if it means having to go through some very tough times, instead of having a quick-fix hire who may not have the ability to sustain it long-term. I call it the Jimmy Johnson effect. First year with the Cowboys, he went 1-15. Three years later, they're back-to-back Super Bowl champions. Then, on the flip side, you have Larry Coker at Miami, from a national title his first year to getting canned in his sixth.

Kelvin Sampson did some good things for this program but he did us a huge favor by going to Indiana. I'm not sorry to see him go, and I like the change of pace with this program. Give Jeff Capel a few years and he'll have us competing for championships again.

many things disappointing about the game.

1) very sloppy play.
2) upperclassmen really did little. they need to pull some weight.
3) no one went to the game.

the first two things will get better. seemed like the young guys (and longar) were trying to carry the team, and they'll clean up their play as they get more experience. and hopefully the older guys will step up.

the last thing is really disappointing. it's bad when apathy among the fans/students has set in 7 games into the year. having villanova come to the LNC on ESPN is a big deal.

if paul thompson and adrian peterson were running sprints, and it was open to the public, it would've outdrawn the game by 20,000 people.

My thoughts after watching the game.
1. Our rebounding sucks
2. Our ball handling sucks
3. The offense looks exactly like a sampson team
4. Defense looks pretty good
5. As of now, This team has absolutely no leadership on the floor
6. Freethrow shooting sucks

Everything else looks championship quality:O

My thought from the game....

--Crowd was disappointing. Those that were there were fairly loud and into the game, but the numbers weren't good. Half of the lower bowl was empty at tip-off and the ushers came by later and basically begged people to move down.

--Bottom line; the better team won. We play Villanova 10 times and they win 9 of them. Our turnovers aren't JUST a matter of sloppy play, it's a matter of lacking talent at the PG position.

--Crocker was impressive; not only because of his numbers, but also because of the WAY he played. While I thought several of our players took the floor a bit "scared" or tentative, Crocker came out with agression. The entire team played HARD, but Tony was about the only one that played with confidence.

--No doubt we're going to be a good defensive team. We held Nova at 55 points for what seemed like forever, but we just weren't able to score on the other end.

--Another big spot in the game came at 30-22. We had some momentum, but missed the front end of one-and-one two times in a row. That was a huge swing. We'll have no prayer at beating good teams this year if we miss our FT's.

--I started getting frustrated for the first time this year, but I will say that the team played all-out for 40 minutes, even when things started to get ugly. The talent just isn't there right now. I think Capel knows this, and he appears to be taking a real positive attitude towards the team right now, which is probably what they need.

--The big question now is: Even with our lack of talent, can Capel gradually get this team to overachieve and compete in the Big 12? I'm not sure yet. I don't think we're hopeless, but last night we really did get run by a borderline Top 25 team. There were some very brief moments in this game where OU had a shot at getting back in it, but we simply couldn't put the ball in the hole. I'm interested to see if Capel can help figure out how to solve that or if it's simply a matter of talent.

--My goal remains simple: Stay above .500 all year. That way, the post-season will be a certainty, which would be a real nice accomplishment for this team. We're 4-3 now with two patsies ahead. Should be 6-3 before playing Tulsa.

I think there was poor defense in the first half and for some stretches in the second, which is probably why we switched to the 1-3-1 for a good part of the game. The press we ran seemed decent but didn't really turn Nova over like I was hoping.

Turnovers killed OU last night. More than anything, that blew the game open for Nova and, once they got a big lead, seemed to be when our players started pressing. If you don't have an explosive offensive game, you need great D and limited turnovers. The rebounding was also almost non-existent which is a killer in any game.

I'm disappointed in last night's game. I know the team needs time, but I don't think they played as well last night as they are capable. Credit Nova's D (they play great on-the-ball defense) and shooting (it seemed like they hit almost every open 3, and we gave them plenty of looks), but OU could have played better even at this stage.

The positives are that I'm really impressed with Crocker's game. He looks like he can be a star. Longar2 has made great progress too, he isn't Taj Gray and I'd like to see him more physical around the basket and finish inside with some dunks but he has some skill and I see him getting better yet.

I generally agree the biggest problem is with the upperclassmen. I'm not saying Clark and Austin Johnson didn't make mistakes but you can see how Clark is going to be a stud in time and AJ is still learning as well.

Neal, Carter and Walker. Neal is about as clutch a shooter as we have had at OU but he isn't an all-around great player. He is limited in his game. Carter is pretty good role player but I don't see him ever carrying a team. Frankly Chris Walker is playing better than I thought he would.

I loved the fact that Capel coached to the end and he did it with fire. He didn't mail it in even when it was apparent we weren't going to win.

I give Nova some credit for having good guards and hitting some big 3's that put the game out of reach. Nova was a good team last night.

The team is probably just 1-2 years away because the bulk of the talent is Fresman and Soph and they aren't the type of players that dominate immediately though they could turn out to be very good. If you expect anything more than the NIT out of this team this year I think you will be sorely disappointed but I see where the team can improve quite a bit as the year goes on.

Spot on. I do think we'll compete in the Big 12. This seems a way down year for the Big 12 with new coaches, lack of marquee players and early defeats, so we can hang in there.

The empty seats in the lower bowl are disgusting. I think if there are that many seats empty, they allow upper section people down to fill them (they've done that before during cupcake games with announcer announcing the permission). It could get the crowd louder.

Also, once I'd like replace of the call and response of BOOMER and SOONER with PADDED and PLASTIC in reference to the hard, cold chair I sit in and the cozy cushions the no-shows should sit on. :D

OU could compete in the Big XII North... I don't know about the Big XII South. Baylor appears to have better talent. I'm not seeing all of this talent for Keith Clark. He seems like a decent role player, at best. Maybe I'm missing something. I think .500 is a realistic goal, but I'm not sure if this team will get there... I don't know if Crocker is as good offensively as he played last night, but he seems to be the only competent scorer on the floor for OU.

Yeah, I'm waiting on Clark before I start calling him a potential "stud."

To me, you say a guy is going to be great when he actually shows some real signs ON THE COURT: Crocker did that last night. Clark has had some nice PLAYS here and there, but he's still pretty raw. Not bashing him, glad he's here, but not ready to proclaim him either.
