Just wanted to get everyones' takes on the current names of the bowls. I know it's not a big deal, but whatever happened to just having the "Cotton Bowl", "Sugar Bowl", and "Peach Bowl"? We have some pretty ridiculous bowl names now. So and so dot com, some kind of car care bowl, etc. I know money controls much of college football now, but it seems to have gotten out of hand.

Same reason stadiums have stupid names now and coaches make seven figures.

Money, money, money. Why do something for free when you can make millions more by just adding a name onto the title. Kind of like boxers having their backs tattooed with casinos names or nascars having every square inch covered with decals of sponsors.

I don't get why they got rid of the original bowl name altogether in some cases. I could live with "Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl", but now it's just the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. And WTF is the Capitol One Bowl?

It used to be called the Florida Citrus Bowl, and before that, the Tangerine Bowl.

Still, the best bowl name of all time, hands down, was the Poulan/Weed-Eater Independence Bowl.

How about the Houston Gallery Furnature.com Bowl. Now it's called the Texas Bowl.

In between it was the EV1.net Houston Bowl, whatever that was.

EV1.net (Everyone's Internet) (http://www.ev1.net/) was a Houston based internet service provider, they have since been acquired by PeoplePC Online.

It is hard to beat the Poulan-Weed Eater Bowl, but with the new International Bowl in Toronto they were talking about the last bowl game outside the US. It was the Bacardi Bowl in Havana, Cuba in 1937, so they were ahead of their time in naming rights.

I just wish there were a Grenade Bowl ... we could hurl grenades onto the field instead of oranges.

Or the Coconut Bowl, or any variety of large fruit.

G&E Washing Machine Bowl. Sweeeet. "And the Sooners take a knee to wrap up an undefeated season ... and here come the Washing Machines!"

Honestly, I think companies should re-examine their strategies for advertisement and corporate sponsorships. Industry research probably suggests otherwise, but I know that seeing "Fedex," "Chic-Fil-A," or "CitiGroup" doesn't make me anymore interested in their respective products. I personally don't believe that the broad name recognition it generates is as effective as it used to be, considering the nature of our information age.

I've often Thought somebody up in Seattle area with some $$$$ should have a Bowl Game in their pro Stadium and Call it the "The Apple Bowl"

Seattle a nice place to visit...
Washington Apples are part of that states heritage
I Believe that stadium is a dome Stadium...?
Plenty of Hotels - etc,,,
Theres no other Bowls near that part of the Country (only San Francisco Emerald)

Anybody got a extra 3 or 4 Million they want me to get this off the ground....:)

Still R'

If a bowl has a title sponsor you're going to ignore the sponsor and call it by the name of the bowl. I.e., Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl you would just call Peach Bowl. However, if the bowl name is the name of the sponsor you're more likely to use the name of the sponsor and that's what they're looking for.

The best are the bowls that get 2 sponsors into the title... like the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl presented by Bridgestone.

I gotta agree. Taking the peach out of the peach bowl just doesnt sound quite right. How about the national championship trophy. Whats it called now? The coaches trophy. WTF? I hate seeing all this commercialization.
