Homey's thread about NPR (and Hamburger King) got me thinking. I visited Hamburger king today and I can think of 3 or 4 places in OK that I think are better:

* Burgess Grill in Lawton
* J&W's in Chickasha (onion burgers)
* Ron's Hamburgers (Tulsa, Midwest City, OKC)
* Irma's Burger Shack (OKC)

What are some more good burger places around the state?

Mongo

Sid's in Moore sells some of the best onion burgers. The Filling Station in Prague sells a burger the size of a hub cap

Where is Irma's at?

it's just East of 63rd and Western. It's kind of a yuppie joint, but they have great burgers.

There is an Onion Burger place in El Reno near the High School. It's been a while, so I don't know if anything has changed. It was great.

Can't remember the name.

If that was the one off of 89th and Western, no. Isnt Big Ed's the one that served up the family burger?

I feel so much better that not one of you hillbillies said "Johnnies." Johnnie's has the lamest burgers for the most money of any place out there.

I like Kendall's (super burger w/jalapenos), and Ruby's Inn in Purcell (double cheeseburger).

Irma's II is going up near 10th/Walker, around St. Anthony's. And, the "Big Ed's" at NW 27th/May is now "Barry's."

Earl's cheddar burger makes me groan involuntarily sometimes. I wish their fries were still good. Charcoal Oven fell on hard times, but got new ownership 4-5 years ago and is really good again, at least the one at NW Expwy/Villa. Can't vouch for Expwy/Macarthur.

I don't know how accidents like this happen.........

One of the best burgers I ever had was from Braum's. They are usually good, but I got a fantastic one once.

Same goes for Fuddruckers. One time it was just better than usual.

Probably due to a chemical imbalance or something.

OUAndy1807

for fast food hamurgers, Braums is the absolute best.

the Old Plantation in Medicine Park closed down about 7 or so years ago. There has been a real revitalization of that area recently due in large part to the bikers that come down to ride in the Wichitas, and someone is currently that old restaurant.

Chesters is good.

Good Time Charlies is good also.

There's actually a new place not far from me named Chunkies.

The Big Chunk Burger has queso with a little jalepeno in it, bacon, and an onion ring on it. All their burgers are 1/2 lb or bigger. Good Stuff. Their fries and rings are frozen unfortunately.

No, but I'm loyal to GTC. My favorite chicken fried steak I've found down here.
Good onion rings. Excellent chicken tenders. I've never had a bad meal there. When I think of over rated, I think of expensive and not worth it. It's pretty reasonable. Overrated = Jailhouse Cafe.

Perhaps you like your CFS pounded out so thin that it's as big as a pizza. The cinnamon rolls didn't impress me other than the size. Not to mention we battled gnats the whole time we were trying to eat.

I like GTC's cut. Smaller in diameter but with some thickness.

It sounds to me like jk doesn't know **** about good hamburgers. Johnnie's is a) way over priced, and b) average at best. The reason they are successful is that they've got a big following/clientele of people who think a good burger is one that is dry, bland, and very generic.

I've given Johnnie's several opportunities to change my mind. I've tried several different locations. I've tried several different hamburgers there. Their onion rings are pretty good, but when I eat a hamburger, onion rings, and my wife gets a kid's burger and fries, and our bill is $20, you'd expect a damn good burger. They ain't. I've had much better burgers at Braum's, Sonic, and most little Conoco gas stations with grills.

Boomerang is the same way. They suck too.

Overalls are in bad taste? Personally, I've never tasted them. But saying they're not fashionable would probably be better, huh Pat? I agree that they're not fashionable, but they're highly functional. For guys that work hard. Which eliminates you, and explains your disdain for the greatness that is bib overalls. I can bend, reach, squat, crawl, etc. and never once have to hitch up my britches. They protect the front of my shirt from wood, welding sparks, and anything else I might rub up against, and they keep sawdust from going down my pants when cutting wood.

And just to stay in the context of this thread, they protect my shirt from the drippings of a good hamburger from Ruby's.
