Our family is headed there as well. It should be a great time. Would be cool to meet a few people on here and say hi in person.

This is my wedding anniversary from my hubby :) He loves me :D and thinks it's cool that I would pick seeing OU in the Fiesta Bowl over something like jewelry or flowers.

FrozenMike,

Do you have suggestions on a SF outing for one of the evenings? I'd also like to get some people together for NYE. Don't want the ball to drop whilst I'm in my hotel room.

Should that have happened shortly after birth?

I dunno about NYE, but there's a couple of good sports bars in Tempe that I've been to that could be locales - The Vine and McDuffy's.

McDuffy's has televised dog race betting if one is so inclined...and it's not a bad place, typical large sports bar with lots of TVs. Haven't been to The Vine.

I'm down for wherever. I have no idea about anything in Phoenix other than there's a really long road called Indian School Road.

It's Vegas for a few days and then over to Tempe for this Sooner.

Go over to Scottsdale, it's about 15 minutes away and much cooler.

EDIT: 15 minutes from Tempe, since the game is over in Glendale, that's more like 30 minutes.

McDuffy's closed this summer.

If anyone is looking for a hotel, the Desert Ridge Marriott is right off of the 101, which goes straight to the stadium (after 20-30 minutes or so). Desert Ridge Marketplace has a bunch of restaurants: Rock Bottom Brewery, Jillian's, YardHouse, etc.

And the fact that I'm only about 15 minutes from the Desert Ridge area as opposed to 45+ from Tempe has nothing to do with these suggestions.:D

I'd be happy to meet all you idiots somewheres. And sadly, yes McDuffy's is now closed.

They put the new stadium over near the California border, it seriously isn't close to anything in the Valley, other than the Coyotes' arena. I live in a suburb of Phoenix and the stadium is exactly 50 miles from my driveway.

Scottsdale and Tempe are your best bets for fun, 30 to 60 minutes from the stadium depending on traffic.

I lived on that road for 2 years back in the 80's!:(

There are a lot of really long roads here. OKC people will feel right at home since the Valley street network is set up in a 1 square mile grid pattern. Nearly impossible to get lost.

IIRC there was a lot of stuff on Camelback Rd.

There is some stuff in Downtown Tempe that is pretty cool as well.

There are a couple of Casino's, one south of town like at Wild Horse Pass or something like that.

There's a casino right off the freeway (101) between Scottsdale and Tempe.

No, I was aware of that before going. :D

Actually my wife and her family are from Phoenix. My MIL worked at PPP many moons ago as did Mrs Mj when she was in her early teens. Mostly, we went there so she could see it again after so many years.

Played golf at Rancho Manana.

That's about the extent of my Phoenix recommendations. :)

My mom took us there a couple of years ago. I was very underwhelmed with the food, but the place had a really cool ambiance.

I've never heard of Rancho Manana, but you can stand in any street in this city and drive a golf ball onto a fairway of some golf course so it's not surprising.

I think Rancho Manana was in Cave Creek. It was fairly swanky but not the swankiest of golf joints for that area I'm sure.
