MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- West Virginia is headed to the Toyota Gator Bowl for the third time in four years, and the 13th-ranked Mountaineers will play Georgia Tech on Jan. 1 in Jacksonville, Fla.
West Virginia (10-2) accepted the bid Sunday, hours after a thrilling 41-39 triple overtime victory over Rutgers.
Georgia Tech (9-4) lost to Wake Forest 9-6 in Saturday's Atlantic Coast Conference title game in Jacksonville.
"We're very excited about returning to the Gator Bowl," West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez said. "Everything they do there is first class, and it is always a great experience for our team and for our great Mountaineer fans."
The Mountaineers are 0-5 in the Gator Bowl. They lost to Florida State on Jan. 1, 2005, and to Maryland the year before. Last year, West Virginia upset Georgia 38-35 in the Sugar Bowl.
Big 12:
Fiesta: OU!!
Cotton: Nebbish
Holiday: A&M
...and the rest is history. The unexplainable meltdown of whorndom leads to the gutter. My fiance is from San Antonio, and there is not a knock on the Alamo, but considering where they could have been without those two last games, I don't think any team could be anymore disappointed than them.
...unless you're a Packer fan :(
