The No. 2-ranked University of Oklahoma® Hockey club scored seven goals in the second period tonight to power past Missouri State by a score of 12-3. Sooners forward Michael Gray scored top shelf against MSU’s goalie to put OU up 1-0. Forward Wil Petty scored to give OU a 2-0 lead but the Ice Bears scored on a 5-on-3 power play late in the period to cut the lead to 2-1. OU forward Adrian Borchgrevink scored on the power play for the Sooners just 1:35 into the second period to start what turned out to be an avalanche of Sooners goals in the period. Borchgrevink scored again at 6:19 and forward Matt Pangrac went the length on the ice to score a beautiful goal at the 7:45 mark to put OU up 5-1. Defenseman Robert Hetrick, forward Justin Hall, defenseman Greg Smith all scored later in the period for Oklahoma as did Borchgrevink to complete his natural hat trick. MSU added a goal of their own in the second period to make the score 9-2 after 40 minutes of play. Forward Ryan Kenney and defenseman Danny Force scored just 22 seconds apart to give OU an 11-2 lead before MSU added their second power play goal of the night. Borchgrevink capped off his big evening with another power play goal with nine seconds on the clock to make tonight’s final 12-3.
Sooners starting goaltender Ryan Anderson stopped 10 of MSU’s 12 shots in the first two periods while Tom Schaul took over in net during the third period, stopping 6 of 7 shots. Missouri State’s Kevin Rekowski started in net for the Ice Bears and stopped 11 of 15 OU shots before being pulled at 6:19 of the second period. His replacement, Michael Brown, fared no better as Brown only stopped 20 of 28 Sooners shots. Both teams were 2 of 7 on the power play.
Oklahoma is now 19-0-0 on the season and remains the only undefeated team in ACHA D1 play. Missouri State falls to 9-10-1. The Sooners play against Central Oklahoma in Edmond next Friday night at 7:30 P.M.
