I hear this stuff about "unanswered points" quite a bit. They gave the SEC Championship score earlier and I think it was something like 21-17 Arkansas. The commentator said, "Arkansas with 21 unanswered points..."

Well, technically not all of those 21 points are "unanswered" right? I mean Florida did score 17 so wouldn't Arkansas only have 4 "unanswered" points?

Inquiring minds want to know....

Technically it would be...

Florida started with 17 unanswered points followed by Arkansas getting 21 unanswered points. :)

I don't mean "brother" in the literal sense... but I mean it like the black people mean it... which is more meaningful, I think.

That's what I think of every time I hear the phrase, "unanswered points." I think it means more than just plain ol' points. Unanswered Points is like b*tch slapping someone that isn't hitting you back.

It's just that they scored that many points while the other team wasn't scoring any during the same period of time.

My offensive drives are typically killed by a false start penalty.

It's another way of saying uninterrupted points. In other words, Florida, by getting ahead by scoring 17 points without Arkansas scoring, scored 17 "unanswered" points. Arkansas came back and score 21 consecutive points without Florida scoring, thus, scoring 21 "unanswered" points.

But then aren't the 21 points in fact the answer to the 17 points? Or, if you want to break it down farther, the first 17 of Arkansas' points were the answer to Florida's 17, then the last 4 were unanswered.

Thus bringing us back to my original point that it seems to me the only unanswered points would be the 4 additional Florida pts over Arkie.

Yeah, I'm good at circular reasoning.

Now, I haven't looked at the box score from the Florida/Arkansas game, but hypothetically let's say that all of those 17 Arkansas points were scored BEFORE Florida got on the scoreboard so that all of their 21 points came after those inital 17...then I could see saying that Florida had "21 unanswered points" but I don't think that was the case.
