nice work Newbomb.

not too bad of a half. LL's lookin' pretty good. Neal's looking better.

I'm surprised that TCU beat TTech.

63-35 final.

OU holds TCU to 12 points in the second half to our 31. That's including a five minute scoreless drought for OU to start the first half.

My thoughts from the game......

--Pathetic crowd. Obviously, many fans were in KC, but even then, the crowd was ridiculously small and lifeless. They should have just done away with the piped in music and promos today--made it even worse.

--Who was the random band that showed up late in the 2nd half and started playing cheesy cover songs???

--You can't play any harded than this bunch right now. The defensive intensity is amazing. It's not always pretty on offense, but we force the issue and more often than not, we wind up with a decent shot.

--TCU isn't too hot, but we made them look silly. The team has totally bought into Capel's defensive principles, and he is really maximizing our players' strengths.

--The outcome would have been worse had Griffin not had such a poor game. I'm hoping he got a clunker out of his system before Villanova comes to town.

--I'd like to see more out of Crocker. I think he's one guy we have that can score off the dribble, and he did just that the first couple of games. But since then, he seems tentative for some reason.

--Capel's right about Clark; he gets down on himself. Hangs his head a lot. You can tell Capel is keeping close watch on him-- he talks to him during the game as much as he does to any player.

--Godbold blew the game open with his jump shot; if he can keep that consistent, he becomes a very valuable player.

--I don't see us losing many games we "should" win this year. Team plays too hard for us to blow many. Still not sure what our "upside" is though-- we'll know more Wednesday.

Nova is 5-1; Good win at Iowa. One loss came at Xavier.

From what I can tell, they look to be a borderline top 25 team this year, most likely an NCAA team, but not as explosive as in past years. Of course, the do have Scottie Reynolds....

I saw most of the 2nd half.

We played OK.

I think maybe I haven't bought into the Capel system.

Really played well on the defensive end. TCU couldn't hit shots either.

What I like is that guys are loose and confident to take shots on the offensive side of the ball.

Case and point: in the 2nd half Godbold stopped his dribble on the wing looking to feed to post, his man dropped back to stop the pass into the post, then Godbold looked to pass it out to the point, but the passing lane was closed; his man was still sagging, so he pulled the trigger from 3 and hit the shot.

so you're saying one 5 minute drought compares to an entire career of it by KS?

so you're saying one 5 minute drought compares to an entire career of it by KS?

wow

We've had droughts in every game against a D-1 team so far this year.

Droughts happen to every team in every game. It's pretty rare that a team shoots lights out for an entire game.

Kelvin Sampson was held to an unreasonably high standard by some due to personal dislike for the guy, regardless of how good a coach he is. Capel should be held to the same standards we applied to Sampson.

Personally, I think Capel will be a fine basketball coach at OU. But the widespread belief that Kelvin Sampson is the only coach to ever have teams that go into offensive funks during a game was ridiculous.
