...NPR on a Saturday morning is one of life's simple, free pleasures.

"Weekend Edition," "The Car Guys," etc.

Anyhoo, there's a show called "the Splendid Table" done by a very pleasant and knowledgeable "foodie" lady.

The installment running this morning includes a piece on the classic hamburger. Apparently there's a joint in Shawnee that makes the best hamburger in America. I got to try the place sometime.

BTW, the show declares Oklahoma is the "Most Hamburger Conscious State in the US." We already knew that didn't we?;)

Hillbillies' Cafe in Arcadia, Ok makes my favorite Burger (right now)

Johnnie's is a close 2nd. You Tulsans should feel honered that they opened one on Harvard and I-44.

I also like Charcoal Oven on NW Expressway.

For fast-food, I like Wendy's burgers.

Homey, one of our favorite activities is to listen to Car Talk while we eat breakfast.

Speaking of burgers, if you ever get to try In-n-Out burger in socal, they are great. They sell burgers, fries, and drinks. No attempts at mexi-italiano-sino-wrap-carb-blowout-ish combinations. You order fries, they take a potato, skin it, cut it, and fry it right there in front of you.

God bless em.

The Sterns say Oklahoma is "the most hamburger conscious state in the union" and Hamburger King has been contributing to that distinction since 1927. Diners call in their order from a telephone in each booth. Go for a griddled burger, the classic Frito Pie or catfish dinner.

what kind of Orwellian newspeak is "hamburger conscious"?

hamburger is what you eat when you can't get chicken-fried steak. if can't put gravy or jalapenos on it.....it's not worth eating.

****ing yankees.

I highly recommend J&W Grill in Chickasha. Best fried onion burger in the world.

Fast food: Whataburger or Sonic, anyone?

Here they are really good but the Mom 'n Pops are hard to beat.
My favorite is at a little dive bar in downtown Johnson City, TN. They give you a slice of onion about an inch thick and make "crispy chips" like homemade potato chips. Dee-lish! And I'm a hamburger connoisseur of sorts.

I used to love the DOCB (double onion cheeseburger) at the Quarter House in Norman. :D

Car Talk on Saturday and Sunday is about the only radio "program" I make it a point to listen to. Splendid table - that lady talks about food like it's sex and always makes me so damn hungry.

I just don't know about Sonic, dude.

It seems like all their food tastes the same.

I think their burgers taste kind of bland. They just don't have alot of flavor.

I do like their chillie-cheese-tots though.

http://www.roadfood.com is the Sterns' website. Fun to navigate around and as David Cross says, "and they're fat too!"
