For the first time since it opened up in 1894, The University of Tulsa is CLOSED for weather. Just got this from the Prez.

Dear Colleagues,

Due to the deteriorating weather situation and the forecast for more
snow and low temperatures tonight, The University of Tulsa will close
today at 1:00 p.m., and will remain closed all day Friday. Essential
University personnel in Housing and Dining, Campus Security, and
Physical Plant will remain on duty during the closure. If you work in
one of these areas and have a question about whether you should report
to work, please check with your supervisor.

Anyone wishing to pick up a paycheck should do so at the Business Office
in McClure Hall before 1:00 p.m. today. At the discretion of individual faculty, classes missed this afternoon and on Friday can be made up on Tuesday of next week.

The all-faculty forum on NCA accreditation scheduled for Friday at noon
will be rescheduled to January 4th.

Contrary to an earlier announcement, the Collins Fitness Center will
remain open during normal operating hours and will be available for
students to use during the closure.

Check with the Athletics Department on scheduling of the men's
basketball game Friday evening against Lamar.

Please use extreme caution in departing the university this afternoon.
God bless and Godspeed,

--Stead

I didn't have any problems driving in to downtown this morning. Roads are still okay as of lunchtime. I'm going to stay another hour or two before going home. I'll report again after I drive home.

Yeah, yeah, but I bet Minneapolis and St Paul, 1) had the road clearing equipment and techniques down to a fine art and 2) the Minnesotans don't spazz when driving on it.

just saying.

True to a point. However, it's the black ice that was the worst. When it's well below zero for weeks on end, the water vapor in car exhaust freezes on contact with the road. It can't be scraped up by the plows and it's too cold out for salt to melt it. So, we always had, for a few weeks anyway, solid sheets of ice to navigate. FUNFUNFUN!! :D

Well, I didn't.

Also, did you know that when it's -40 you can throw a pot of boiling water into the air and it'll freeze before it hits the ground? :texan:

Good Luck with your finals Homey.

Thanks, I got the first one Monday, then another on Thursday, another the following Monday, then the a$$-buster is gonna be the last one on Wednesday. Only one day between it and the previous one, and by that time, the "don't give a crap" light is blinking.
