Sony got caught putting rootkits on CDs. That's bad juju that installs a backdoor on your computer's defenses.

Never, ever buy CD's from Walmart. The lack of parental warnings on the CD's should give it away.

Its very helpful from my point of view, trying to keep certain things away from the teenager I have adopted.

Don't worry, what teenagers miss in all actuality in foul language will be made up for by MTV's constant Road Rules/Real World challenges that basically teach everyone that sex with lots of people is fun, always wear little to nothing, and that money is the most important thing in the world!!!

Don't forget getting belligerent drunk and fighting is acceptable.

Or if there's a single out on the radio they use that edited version.

Example:
Lets get retarded.
Lets get it started.

Same here. Job, marriage, and kid have pretty much made pop culture a very minor part of my life. I find myself listening to 88.5 as I drift home through the mass of traffic. The peacefulness of vacant 70s pop contrasts well with the noise and choas of the big city traffic. Those type of radio stations are like ear valium to me at the end of the day.

They just took the only alternative rock station in Birmingham off the air. They replaced it by putting their AM sister station (sports radio) on the same alternative station's old frequency. At least the classic rock station is still here, otherwise there'd be nothing worth listening to.

You only apply your views on property rights selectively?

Ike

You people pay for music?

**** yeah I pay for my music. I want the artists I enjoy listening to to continue to make music I like. This I do by buying their music.

It should be noted however, that the number of artists I want to continue making music is dwindling.

I bought a Limp Bizkit CD at walmart a couple of years ago unaware of the censorship......bad bad mistake.

I've only bought the following actual music CDs:

Reggae's Greatest Hits
LFO's "Life is Good" album
a Dido album
and Coldplay's "Parachutes"

When Metallica's "Garage, Inc." came out back in '98, my buddy picked it up from Wal-Mart not knowing. A bunch of us were in the car when "So What" came on, and it was then we realized that it was censored. We all got a good laugh out of it, and it got funnier with each beep. My buddy didn't think it was as funny, though.

they list when it's the edited version, as far as i can tell

what i don't get is that they sell DVD movies with sex, violence, bad language, etc... and don't edit those

i don't really worry about this aspect much... the artists make very little off of the CD if they are with a major label. if you want to give money to the artist, go to a concert

That's one of the reasons I don't use this argument, though morally there's no real difference between stealing a nickel and stealing a five.

One of my first principles is that people are entitled to the fruits of their labor and are able to sell them.

If the artist is entitled to the fruit of his labor-i.e. the song-then he is entitled to sell the publishing rights to his song to someone else. For those publishing rights to be meaningful, they have to include some sort of exclusivity.

Since the artist has freely sold recording rights to a second party, it is just as immoral and unethical for a third party to make recordings that do not benefit the second party as it would have been had the first party retained those rights.

i'm not saying it has any legal merit, those are just my feelings :D

i do buy CD's but it's usually out of a quality/convenience thing

i think the current business model is doomed though by high speed internet, compression and cheap storage. they are grasping at straws as it is, IMO

I agree that the current business model is doomed because it's just too damned easy to steal. I don't think that excuses theft though.
