That game was such a hoot! Applewhite managed to totally embarass Mack Brown by showing the world, yet again, that he ought to have been the starting QB...but the Whorns still lost! Didn't quite make up for OU's blowing the South that year, but it sure was fun to watch. :D

Yeah, it's going to be hard to catch stoops when everyone except Brown are gone. And I doubt Mack will catch him anytime soon.

yep...they're the only two active coaches with a XII title.

But that doesn't tell the story very well since Mack's just won 1 more than a dead man.

Here's a Big XII 'Ship Game Q or two:

Has Stoops ever been an underdog in the BXIICG? (I don't recall the spread in '00.)

No team has repeated as BXII Champ. Besides us, who has had the opportunity to repeat?? (Maybe col. in '02?)

In fairness, that dead man can coach like a mother****er.

How 'bout this: He has one more than I do, and I like to quick-kick on first down every time to catch them off guard!

It's an even year, and going by precedent ('00, '02, '04), Stoops will win Saturday... right? :)

Get with the program. Next year will be odd (07)... without a quarterback.

The Major's role in "almost bringing them back" is greatly exagerrated IMO. While no doubt he played better than Simms that night (not saying much), the fact is that UT scored all of 6 offensive points in the entire second half until 31 seconds were left in the game. If not for Barnett's incredibly stupid brain-fart in calling a fake punt that was returned for a TD, the game wouldn't have even been close at the end.

Texas 7 10 3 17-37
Colorado 7 22 7 3-39

I had remembered that game as a major beat down. I didn't recall the final as being that close. It seemed like everytime I looked up a col. running back was plowing over a horn db like ralphie on a stampede.

You call it "drive-by posting" ... I call it "correcting revisionist Whorn history."

I hate to be captain killjoy and the bring-me-downs, but last year about this time we were saying that the north always wins in odd years and the south always wins in even years.

But Texas had to screw the pooch and win in an odd year. Those flamers.
