That stolen victory against oregon is coming back to hurt us even more than we ever though as far as rankings go and they keep losing. Not that it matters since we are in if beat nebraska, just sayin ;)

we'd still be on the outside looking in with 1 loss, but damn it sure would be nice to finish 3 or 4 in the final bcs standings. it would be a good transition to next year and maybe help get us a bloody qb on campus.

I am not 100% sure on that. Our conference championship game would help us a lot, if we were considered a one loss team. ****ers.

What does Notre Dame need to be to get their bid?

We know at least one team ahead of us (and Notre Dame) will lose since Florida plays Arkansas.

Doesn't ND get in for a fact if it is in the top eight, but optionally can be in if it is in the top twelve?

I agree in principle. OU would likely be top 5 but wouldn't be close to #2

I don't think even with the Oregon loss we're a team that has looked like we could hang with tOSU/SUC/Michigan et al. But I guess that's the NickZepp in me.

The main thing that seems to be hurting us this year is that we've played some decent teams this year, just no great ones (Texas maybe comes close) and beat none. That doesn't mean we don't belong in the top 5, just that's the system. Ironically, we may be headed for a "showdown" with Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl.

Well ASSUMING everything goes our way, winning at Arrowhead and then winning the Fiesta Bowl vs. Boise State...we'll probably jump quite a bit.

Boise would fall behind us because we'd beat them. Wisky or the SEC team they face in the Capital One Bowl would fall behind us. We'll probably also pass the losers of the other 3 BCS bowls, but I doubt the national championship. That's 5 spots to jump which would take us to #7. We could potentially make 6 if the 4th SEC team ranked ahead of us loses the Cotton Bowl.

So provided we beat the shuckers and the tater-heads I would think 6-8 as a final ranking. That's a very respectable ranking considering we almost fell out of the polls after Oregon and Texass. Don't count the chickens before they hatch though. Nebraska will be tough and Boise is harder than people give them credit for.

11/26/2006, 06:56 PM
Now that we are talking about it, against the top 4 teams, how do you all think we would do assuming we play a good game...

USC and ohio state-we lose by two td's

Mich and FLa I think would be a td game, not sure who would win, depends if we were able to run the ball???

yermom
11/26/2006, 07:04 PM
we don't need anything from the BCS ranking at this point, no one really talks about the ranking there, unless it's for bowl placement, but that's irrelevant for us at the moment... although, if we do lose to Nebraska, one extra loss would take us out of the mix, while if we win the Oregon game we could still have a shot

it's kinda nice to be #8 in the AP though. ending in the top 5 might be nice

i don't think we could hang with the top 5 teams right now, not the way we have been playing

0-4 against the big 4 because Texas handed it to our guys and they have proven to be average !

I wouldn't be surprised if Nebraska beats us, but I'm hoping they don't.

Boise could get us if our players over-look them as the fans here have. These are 19-20 year old kids, you never know what they'll do !

When we limit turnovers we're playin a LOT better than we did against Texas.

How the F'in hell are we not the highest ranked 2 loss team, not only are the voters not taking into account we were robbed in Oregon but I still see hating with the teams ranked ahead of us.

Sorry to sound like some whining OU fan, but we are getting screwed by alot of voters. We have won 6 games in a row and all these other 2 loss teams have suffered later losses. The AP poll is the only one giving us the ranking we deserve.

I thought this "loss" at UO was going to hurt us later in the season. Maybe we can pile on style points against Nebraska next weekend and jolt up about 5 spots??

I like our chances against Nebraska better than i liked our chances at Stillwater yesterday.

i would be shocked if we got any style points, we have been squeaking by points wise with our tougher opponents.

and i do not understand the whole style points debate. i had thought that the bcs had removed margin of victory from its formula. am i wrong?

I think that some people are confused about the style points debate. What coaches are complaining about is how the pollsters vote. They just look at the scores (and sometimes just ask the night before, "Hey! Did OU loose?") and they vote.

I just hate it when sports writers try to tie the style points debate with the BCS. If we just left it up to the polls, the style points thing would be worse than ever.

i think that they limited the margin of victory to 21 points, if you win by more than that, it doesn't matter

that may be an old update though, the idea was that teams were creaming cupcakes by 60 and getting more points for it
