it has to chap dumbo's *** that we went from being ranked just behind his team to being ranked just in front of his team.

I'm sure Urban Cryer will whine and cry some more about still being 4th.

#10 is great. still s/b above BSU though. The voters still can't see the true 11-1 record.

yermom

2-4 are awful close, the computers could have a big factor in who is #2 if those numbers stay the same

Florida's SOS is going to get better if they beat Arkansas, USC probably isn't going to get much help by beating UCLA

I still like a 1 loss Florida team (at Auburn) over a 1 loss SUC team (at Oregon State) for the title game.

I still can't understand how a team that lost to an unranked team is a top 5 team. Oregon State is a decent team, but I can't help but think that any other team that lost to an unranked opponent this late in the year would not be number 2 in any poll right now.

noobalicious
11/26/2006, 12:49 PM
I agree...Florida should be #2 or #3 right now (whereever pollsters want to put them compared to Michigan). SUC should be 4...Oregon St < Auburn < tOSU.

And it is a shame we can't have an overrated bowl. I think Boise would get there every year...and face either USC, ND, LSU or Tennessee. This year in particular I think Wisky would deserve the berth though. They only beat 2 teams with winning records!! Their non-conference schedule was San Diego St., Bowling Green, Western Illinois (they have a football team??), and Buffalo. Their combined record is 13-33. And we were giving Boise crap about having a weak non-conference schedule. I cannot believe Wisky is ranked 6. With any luck they'll get a strong SEC opponent in the Capital One Bowl and get creamed.

Anyone else notice that they dropped Neuter Dame to the minimum ranking to still get a BCS berth? They don't care about merit, or what team is more deserving anymore. They just want what games are going to be the biggest draw.

Yep!!! Notre Dame is a 8-4 team period!! The only reason they came back in the games they should have lost was: 1. They were at home and 2. The teams they were playing went with the conservative play calling at the end of the game instead of continuing to do what got them
HUGE leads.

They got wayyyy to much credit because of their name and because they had the media darling Quinn

This is great that we're finally moving up there, but the truth is we should probably be ranked no lower than 5... so it's still not what it should be.. The BCS really works and has shown why we'll never need a playoff....ever!

It will be so great to watch a bazillion exhibtion games this holiday season in the bowls that, in the big scheme of things, means absolutely zilch as opposed to the boredom that would hav been the result of an 8 team playoff.

Only way to change the system is to not watch it.

Me, I don't mind the current system all that much, but seriously-if you want the BCS to fold, then don't watch any of the bowl games. Low ratings is the only thing that will convince them to change the system. Take the money out of the system and the system changes to something that will make money.

I rarely watch any of the Bowl games. I watch the one with OU and I watch small parts of the other games with other Big 12 teams. And I doubt if I watch the national title game if I have anything better to do that night.

Heh. I miss the days of the made-up UT championships. It was more funner.

Me too. On the Austin360 BBS board a few years ago, one UT fan laid claim to nine or ten national titles for Texas, which included mostly some season-ending computer ranking like the Dunkel rating or some other system named after the inventors. OhU1 laid waste to this dude, and the link disappeared the next day, either because the UT fan realized nobody was buying it, not even the other UT fans, or because the moderators were so embarassed by the post.

However, remember this was the BBS board, which is full of more realistic, even cynical UT fans. I recall OhU1 actually became a pretty well-accepted and respected poster on that site. A post like the one above would have generated a lot of support from the sunshine pumpers on hornfans.com, and OhU1 would have been banned.

Florida, despite playing the SEC, has no pizazz to help themselves in the eyes of voters...and apparently none with computers either. They look ordinary, even in victory.

Why should we not be ranked higher than a 1 loss USC team that lost to an unranked OSU, and our only loss is to texas??

Probably because USC beat Arkansas and Notre Dame, who are currently ranked #8 and #12.

The only currently ranked team we've beaten is TAMU at #22.

I guess it's just where you put the weight -- do you want to penalize a team for losing to an unranked team more, or do you want to reward them for beating a ranked team more?

EDIT: Also, Oregon State is 8-4 (6-3 conference) with a marquee win over top five USC. They clearly aren't really all that bad of a team.

I gotta say I think the BCS gives us the best match-up for 1 vs 2

I still think the playoff system is somewhat flawed because it is a tournament. Sometimes anything happens in these things. A lot of times in playoffs you get the 2 best teams playing before the finals. Injuries have a lot to do with end of the year playoffs, see Hollis Price in our Final Four run. See OU in 88 when we beat KU three times but they beat us once and an 11 loss team wins a tournament and get crowned NC.

JMO but I like things the way they are.

Blown out against Boise State and a loss at home against Washington State. They are not that good of a team either. Check back in a week after they lose against Hawaii as well.
