I think 'backing into' the Big 12 title game would have been via a loss. OU won this one fair and square.

Doesn't matter either way - OU wins the south.

Well the loss would be from UT yesterday.

However, somebody else pointed out that for UT to get in today after losing two in a row would have been backing to a higher degree.

I have to agree.

No doubt the ut loss opened the door. Standings say OU 7-1, UT 6-2. No backing in there.

Yep, Texas blew it. They dont get to talk any sh*t. Maybe they beat us back in the Red River, but we also didn't blow our last two games. We beat aTm at home, which is much more than they can say.

We lost to some big 12 team way back in October.

We didn't back into sh!t. We won. We won our way into the championship game.

I agree, I don't feel like we backed into anything. Texas lost back to back games, if anything, they blew it.

Technically, the last sentence contradicts the first sentence.

That's what "backing in" means.

That said, OU earned it. Had OU lost, UT would have backed in.

since I was the one who started the thread a few weeks ago claiming the Whorns were backing into the MNC game I will gladly admit that the Sooner Bus is in full speed reverse on the way to KC. And by the way... my happybutt it riding it all the way in.

Before any one jumps all over me for not saying we earned it...let me clarify.."Backing in" in my book would be anyone who didnt get somewhere simply by virtue of thier own wins (i.e. needed someone else to lose). The Sooners played there tails off this year and deserve to be in KC.
I've got my tickets...my hotel room and my warmest clothes ready for next Saturday night.

We backed in.

I don't call winning 7 straight as backing-in anywhere. I will say we stormed our way in through the back door though.

The idea is, that if texas had done what they rightly should have done, we wouldn't have had a say.

I dont think you guys backed in. I think Tx lost it. You guys did what you had to do and they didnt, end of story. Good luck and see ya in KC.

Thank you. Exactly correct. OU did what it took to win the big 12 south, Texas did not...I look at it this way....
if Texas had lost the two games right after the OU game and then won 5 straight instead of winning 5 straight and then losing the last two, would we even be considering saying OU backed-in??? No.

we did what we had to do and the whorns didn't. you have to play all of your conference games and the winner is decided after everyone has played their games.

winning more conference games than everyone else is not backing in.

exactly right, birddog. and what would people be saying if Texas already had two losses in the B12 before they beat OU, and OU was in first place all year. people wouldn't even be considering this to be a back-in appearance.
