I haven't seen it before. How does that black stuff not get all up in their faces or on the unis and stuff? What is it exactly?

Old pieces of tire.

I'm 99% sure that OSU and Nebraska have the same turf system.

yeah, everyone is going to that system. it's basically a long shag carpet that's filled up with little black rubber granuals. eventually with the old systems, the rubber pieces settled down and didn't fly up so much, but I don't think it's like that with the newer ones.

we have the same system in the Everest Center don't we? IIRC they soaked it down with water to help settle the granules much like compacting sand.

FieldTurf (http://www.fieldturf.com/product/overview.cfm) is a brand name of that type of surface although many others make a similar product now. They were pretty much the originators of the product and that link has info on the product.

yeah, and the old astroturf field south of the switzer center just got replaced with it. I think they may have even used a sand plate to compact the rubber pieces.

I think they had the old style carpet at War Memorial and recently replaced it, so it is fairly new and that is why it sprays so much. After a year of rain, sun and settling they tend not to do it as much. They have grass in Fayetteville.

I think every question has been answered except this one. The answer is: it does.

Yep, I saw a game the other night where they were having to wash some out of a players eyes and he had the granules all over his arms much like dirt sticking to sweat.

In the Colts/Redskins game a few weeks ago, Manning was sacked and his helmet came off. When he got up, you could see the rubber chips all over the side of his face. Yet to see a pic of it, though.
