Coker, 58, won more games in his first six seasons than any other Hurricanes coach except Dennis Erickson, and he has won more games since 2001 than all but five Division I-A coaches.

That is a quote from an espn article. Only 5 schools have had better records than him sin 01 and he's booted. That's just crazy.

Geez people.......he's a nice guy, but the program has been steadily declining since he INHERITED a top program.

Imagine that......leaving the Big East put a crimp in their success.

JMHO - But I see a few more BAD years for Miami --- we will see...!!!

That's because year in and year out the Big East was weak enough that the Canes could dominate. Even though the ACC hasn't been nearly as strong as everyone said it was going to be, there are enough good teams to keep Miami from dominating the league. I have always said that teams like VT, Miami, and FSU, would have trouble winning conference titles consistently in conferences like the SEC, Big 12, or Big 10(11).

Larry's a good guy, but the more they have gone to his players, the worse that scUM has done.

Why? Miami has been on a downward spiral since Coker's first year. Why wouldn't Iowa State want a coach that has shown he can rebuild a program rather than squander one with lots of advantages.

JmHo - But I think Coker could do a great job with some school that doesn't have a lot of pressure to win right now...Which I think iowa state would be one of those jobs--- just getting them in a bowl game he could keep his job until he retires...and since 6 and 6 will get you in bowl games he's got a lock..
Still R'

he was 6 and 6 at Miami.

How do you think he'd do at ISU?

I'm glad the program is rough shape right now, or Stoops would probably entertain some offers. The way it is now he probably wants no part of it.

I think he could get them (Iowa state) at 7 and 5 no problem - But once again JMHO...

I just disagree.

Coker never built anything, and the only thing he took over wasted away.

6 and 6 at Miami, with Miami's resources turns into 4 and 7 at ISU IMO.

Dan McCarney got them to 7-5 on a fairly regular basis. I don't think Iowa State is looking for a guy that can get them to 7-5. Iowa State wants to win the North.

ISU was maxed out under McCarney. It comes down to whether you are happy playing to go to Shreveport, or do you want more? Why should a school aspire to be 7-5? What's the point of fielding a team if you are happy to compete for middle of the pack?

POINT 1
Yeah, Coker won with Davis' recruits. The fact remains he lost control of the house - if had a the Balls of Bob, then half of their thugs would have been gone.

POINT 2
All the reason why ND refuses to join the Big 10 or any other conference. They would go the way of psu or miami in quick order.
