Shrek is the third funniest movie of all time?

PrideTrombone
11/24/2006, 10:23 AM
Blazing Saddles should be #3.
Christmas Vacation is funnier than the original. Should be Top 20.
Trading Places should be in the Top 20.
Raising Arizona should be much higher.
Office Space should be in the Top 10.
Where the hell is Super Troopers?

Shouldn't be on the list (or much further down):

Shrek
Big
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (never did like it for whatever reason)
Legally Blonde
Four Weddings and a Funeral (WTF?)

Young Frankenstein is WAY to friggin low!

Also, haven't these tools heard of any movies prior to 1960? I think the panel was made up of Gen Y'ers.

No Duck Soup or Night At the Opera??

Bringing Up Baby ???
Nothing

you can't tell me that Groundhog Day/Legally Blond rates higher than Raising Arizona, MP&THG, Princess Bride, Ferris, Young Frankenstein, Slapshot, Lost IN America

"It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" didn't make the list? Nor "Return of the Pink Panther"....unless they meant that with "the Pink Panther."

Ooh, My Dad will send them hate mail for sure with no Mad Mad Mad World on the list!
The Pink Panther was only for the original. Although, I think Strikes Again was better than Return of..

I think a lot of criteria was if the film or someone in it was nominated for an oscar, cuz that's like the sign of a great comedy.

43. What About Bob?
Bought it off the $5 rack at walmart the other day and actually introduced my sons to it this morning.

Fargo was a comedy?

Funny yeah, but a comedy?

PhilTLL
11/24/2006, 05:08 PM
AFI's list is excellent but skews a little old, making it less accessible. You could show half the movies on that list to half the people today and they wouldn't find them funny (Ninotchka, Sullivan's Travels, etc). Bravo's list leans so recent that it has no historical perspective or credibility.

Proof:
20. The Jerk
19. Wedding Crashers
18. Stripes
17. M*A*S*H
16. Old School
15. Fast Times at Ridgemont High
14. Napoleon Dynamite

Uh huh, Wedding Crashers better than The Jerk, Old School and Napoleon Dynamite better than M*A*S*H, yep.

American Graffiti is funny?

I have always thought that AG was a slice of life film that is refreshing, yet, not very funny.

I don't think Fargo was a comedy at all. That movie was pretty friggin dark. As with most Coen movies, I loved it, but OBWAT should have outranked it.

I love Zoolander. That movie is greatness. Anybody that says otherwise is nuts.

Any list which does not include Raising Arizona, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstien, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian, and the Princess Bride in the top thirty fails, automatically.

(Note that some of these belong in the top 10 or top 5, but none of them belong lower than 30.)
