OSU's Woods, Bowman confident
****** 2006
Cowboys wideouts anxious to ‘make plays'

By Mike Baldwin
Staff Writer

STILLWATER — Wide receiver D'Juan Woods is confident Oklahoma State's explosive offense can end a three-game ****** losing streak even though Oklahoma has one of the nation's top ranked defenses.
"All I know is they better have one hell of a scheme," Woods said. "That's all I got to say because we're going to make our share of plays."

The Cowboys have made their share of plays, scoring 38 and 35 points, in the last two ****** meetings at Boone Pickens Stadium.

Once again the marquee matchup is OSU's offense — ranked seventh nationally in scoring (36.6 points) — against an OU defense that's ranked 10th nationally.

"Between me, AD (Adarius Bowman) and (Brandon) Pettigrew... we're going to make plays," Woods said. "The only way they're going to be able to stop us is if they scheme to be in the right spots. The advantages will be in the coaching."

Another key matchup will be OSU offensive coordinator Larry Fedora matched against OU's defensive coaches.

Since OU coaches moved Reggie Smith to safety, and Marcus Walker and Lindy Holmes have settled in at cornerback, the Sooners have been the conference's most dominating defense the past month.

"They're playing lights out," Fedora said. "They have a lot of confidence. They're peaking at the end of the season."

Fedora would like to get some one-on-one matchups with Woods or Bowman.

"I'd like my chances if that happens but I don't know how many one-on-one chances we'll get," Fedora said. "They blitz and play zone behind it. They're aggressive but they protect the back end."

Most teams began protecting the back end after Bowman scored four touchdowns and established a Big 12 record for receiving yards (300) against Kansas. Fedora adjusted, too. Besides putting Bowman in the slot to try and avoid double teams, the past three weeks he's moved Woods around.

"D'Juan has come on because there's been more emphasis on defenses focusing on AD," Fedora said. "D'Juan has made more plays for us the last month."

Many defensive coordinators have concentrated on stopping Woods and Bowman. Fedora has countered with a greater emphasis on a running attack that's ranked seventh in the country.

"We're going to have to make plays in the running game and the passing game," Fedora said. "If they make it a one-dimensional game it will be tough for us to be successful. One reason we've been successful is we've been able to do both."

What might surprise some is the Cowboys have a higher rushing average (216.2) than passing (197.1).

"The battle starts up front," said senior offensive tackle Corey Hilliard. "That's what sets the tone. We need to keep them out of Bobby's face and get lanes open for our running backs."

Dantrell Savage has rushed for 115 or more yards in four of the last five games. Quarterback Bobby Reid (446 yards rushing) has become a key factor in the running game.

"You have to be patient," Fedora said. "They will win some of the battles but we'll win some of the battles. The key is we have to win more than they do. If we do that we feel we'll be successful." Freaking Genius!! :D

Whether it's the passing game or Savage and Reid and the ground attack, Bowman is confident the Cowboys can score against any defense.

"I wouldn't trade the playmakers on this team for nobody," Bowman said. "On any given day we can play against the best. I love the big games."

In his final home game, Woods' goal is to make Saturday's showdown the most memorable game of his career.

"I expect us to play well," Woods said. "We'll be at home in a sea of orange, with little specks of crimson. This is the last game. Our underclassmen are going to win it for the seniors."

Do these guys remember that they are 6-6 and lost to powerhouses Houston, Tech, and K State?

$10 says Woods is bass fishing with his brother this time next year.

And I hope he is right that the advantages are in the coaching. I think that is an unfair matchup.

I thought Djaun Woods was moved to safety... ???

We're going to have a tough time against their 5 Heisman Trophy candidates. Although I have faith that we are better than Houston

He's a wide reciever that had a good start to the season. He had 166 yards against Houston and 13 catches for 300 yards against Kansas (who ranks 116 in pass defense). Since that game he has 18 catches for 308 yards...in 5 games. ESPN touted he and Reid as one of the "Premier QB/WR duos" in the country, but has since backed off since they've done jack **** since then.

First 6 games: 33 catches, 743 yards and 7 TD's.
Last 5 Games: 18 catches, 308 yards and 4 TD's.*

*In those 5 games, 1/3 to 1/2 of those yards per game were in one catch.

so basically what you're saying is that one of us could've had 300 yards against kansas.

It was freaking genius of the caller the next week. Someone called in after the next game when he had 3 catches for 48 yards and 2 TD's and said, "Hey Trabor, do you think this will hurt Bowman's Heisman chances?" :D:D:D:D

The AD stands for a lot of things. Amidst the crappery that is Tulsa's LosuR fans, I've learned a few meanings.

Anus Dart.

Agricultural Degree.

AddaDichtome.

But the one I heard most of all...
