Has anyone mentioned OU/nebraska in 1978? I'm thinking most OU fans were chomping at a chance at te cornholes again, no?

Absolutely. But I don't think the announcement was as warmly received in Bugaha and Lincoln.

Rematches are fine, just not in the NC game. Those who love the current "the whole season is a playoff" system are being pretty quiet right now.

Didn't Bama end up winning it all in '78?

I think Bama won it all from 1968 through 1998....according to the Tuscaloosa Athletic Club Monthly Circular.

rematches are not fair to the team that won the 1st game.

only 2 i can remember are OU/neb & lsu/ole miss, about 58.
winner of 1st game lost the 2nd game, in both cases.

what does that prove ????? should there be a "rubber match" ?????????

yes.

Bowl rematches are brutal for the regular season winner....Ohio St. better be screaming Fight On this Saturday.

Don't forget Florida/Florida State 1996. FSU won in the regular season, but the Gators destroyed them in the championship rematch.

The problem here is I think everyone is assuming that a one-loss USC team would pass Michigan but a one-loss Irish team wouldn't, given that Michigan already beat Notre Dame. However, pollsters often tend to ignore head to head match-ups when it suits them. Look at the final regular season rankings in 2000:

1. Oklahoma (undefeated)
2. Florida State (one loss to Miami)
3. Miami (one loss to Washington)
4. Washington (one loss to Oregon)

If head to head match-ups were always placed as priority, two through four should have been reversed then. Now, I'm not saying that this year's head to head match-up between Michigan and Notre Dame will be ignored, nor should it, but don't put it past the voters to leap frog a Notre Dame team that beats USC in LA over Michigan.
