I happen to like the selection of songs. It's got a different feel than GH1, but I think that was the idea...make it all about hard rock this time. I think later they are planning on featuring different genres in future sequels. It's a hell of a lot tougher too.

I haven't, but I was reading an article in USA Today in the last couple of weeks about big-name musicians that are hooked on the game. Some of them take it on the tour bus to kill time and were surprised at how difficult it is...like they couldn't play their own songs.

Wish I could remember who, but it was more than 5 minutes ago.

yup. GH1 was a good intro game with only about 6 or so songs that took much time to get it right enough to "beat" the song on the hardest difficulty level. Apparently, one of the complaints that the developers heard the loudest from the hardcore gamers was that it was too easy. So they responded, and its pretty damn hard. The last 10 songs on the highest difficulty setting are damn near impossible. But they did add a practice mode as well where you can go over just bits of a song, which is nice. It will make your hand tired quick too.
