Naw, they re-signed Kerry Wood to a 1 year deal, so they will have great pitching again, it's just too bad that most of it will be on the disabled list all year:mad:

An 8 year deal to a 30yr old player for whom speed is a major part of his game, and is a terrible defender who lacks plate discpline. That contract will be luggage for a big chunk of its length.

They can afford it so I'm happy with the move. And I would guess they'll add some pitching as well.

the guy had more outfield assists than anybody in the national league, he had 40 homeruns and 40 stolen bases

how many other players did that?

Lots of assists means nobody thinks much of your arm. Emil Brown racks up the assists too, it don't mean crap. Giving a 30 year old an 8 year deal is idiotic, and he is a terrible defender. The Cubs will have to stick him in center, and once his speed goes in the next couple of years, then you will have a huge liability.

You think he's a good defensive player. He couldn't handle second, and is a mediocore outfielder. He had a .969 fielding percentage last year. That's terrible. Signing players to 8 year deals, especially when they are 30 at the youngest is stupid. The Cubs pitching is still terrible, and putting him back on the Rangers won't make them a contender, they don't have any pitching either. When you back up bad pitchers with bad defenders you don't win ball games. Which is pretty what the Rangers do.

outfield assists are a misleading stat.

Who would you be more likely to take a chance on going for an extra base on, Vlad Guerrero or Manny Ramirez?

Now guess which one gets more outfield assists.
