It used to be a point of, ahem, PRIDE that we snapped the ever-lovin' **** out of our mark times because TEXAS DIDN'T.

Also, when playing Roland's music he uses articulation markings in very specific ways. this symbol (>) means you play your note long but punchy. THIS symbol (^) means you play the note as short as humanly possible with a ton of bite. He intends ends of phrases to push through into the next phrase, and all cutoffs should be at least as precise as attacks. It's an extremely aggressive, loud, brassy style. Not playing his music that way makes the music sound emasculated.

And no, that's not just my opinion. He said that stuff directly to both the Pride and the basktball bands in rehearsals. His other good quote to the basketball band was "miss a note once, fine, you were sightreading. Miss it twice, go home and practice. Miss it a third time, get the hell out of my band and I'll find someone else willing to learn your part." and no, I'm not exaggerating that quote.

Why? 5 years ago, the formations where crisp, the music was loud, and the band didn't try to rip off something the aggies ripped off from the Jay Hawks. Not enough? He tries to do "precision" marching but can't even get the lines straight. Need more? The OU fans have asked him to stop doing something they don't think is appropriate, he basically says f*ck you, this is my band and I will do what I want. Then, when people get mad, he doesn't understand why. When I first got into the student section 5 years ago, you couldn't talk while the pride was playing, now I make cell phone calls because it is so quiet. Plus, he doesn't even make an attempt to bend. I know it is hard, but at least try man!

Ok, I am a student, and I don't like Brian Britt. Why? 5 years ago, the formations where crisp, the music was loud, and the band didn't try to rip off something the aggies ripped off from the Jay Hawks. Not enough? He tries to do "precision" marching but can't even get the lines straight. Need more? The OU fans have asked him to stop doing something they don't think is appropriate, he basically says f*ck you, this is my band and I will do what I want. Then, when people get mad, he doesn't understand why. When I first got into the student section 5 years ago, you couldn't talk while the pride was playing, now I make cell phone calls because it is so quiet. Plus, he doesn't even make an attempt to bend. I know it is hard, but at least try man!

They've got bigger things to worry about than how crisp their high mark time is.

Actually it is Brian Britt's responsibility. His JOB is to make sure that a quality product is on the field week in and week out. His JOB is to make sure that the Pride has quality marchers and to make sure that those who aren't "quality" have the practice necessary to improve. Not everyone has to be perfect, but the group as a whole needs to improve on basic fundaments of marching.

I don't think that was the same year, but yeah, I've heard that argument before. My response was always "If the Pride doesn't need them, that's the end of the story. We're not running a social charity here."
