Which area is least scary: I-10 at WW White, or I-35 at Rittman Road? Convenience to dowtnown also a factor.

It's not too far from each other. Either way it's the west side, which is pretty sparse. Rittiman was the best bet when I lived there, but that was a few years ago. SAS would probably be the best to ask.

mdklatt, I would venture to say your lack of Spanish will not effect you in either of those parts of town. However, based on its proximity to Fort Sam housing and the '09 area, I-35 at Rittiman may be a little less scary for you based on these nearby neighborhoods.

Those places are both east....

I-10 and WW White is convenient to downtown, which makes me think I'm much more likely to get knifed in the hotel parking lot.

they're in close proximity to each other....i would probably choose i-35 and rittiman over the i-10 location

the neighborhood surrounding Fort Sam is one of the lowest income hoods in town

Duh. I'm smart. Yes, those are east side. I had the right region in mind, but the wrong word. I'm special like that. :D

How about I-10 and Wurzbach? I'm sorta familiar with that area, and I don't remember it being too scary. But I assume driving to downtown in the mornings would be a total bitch.

If you are talking about the 09 area, think again, it is less than two miles down the road if you head west. If we are semantics, hood is the operative word. I said his Spanish would not matter in the 'hood. If he is at 35 and Rittiman proper and doesn't move more than two blocks in either direction, then he might as well be on 10 and WW White, but I am assuming he is looking at the area in general and is not going to live in a box on the corner of 35 and Rittiman. You aren't going to live in a box are you klatt?

If you're looking for a nice area not too far from downtown, you might try I-10 and De Zavala.

do this, look for a hotel on 281....up not far from the airport, you'll be in a nicer neighborhood (check loop 410 near broadway also)

there's an amerisuites on 281 and east basse road, give that a look for price, its close enough to downtown

Is the traffic any better than I-10/Wurzbach?

Yikes, for the price of the airport Amerisuite I'd might as well stay at a conference hotel. The main priority is C-H-E-A-P, without getting into dead hookers floating in the pool territory.

I always give the reserved, "Hey, Boomer Sooner, man."

They usually hold their kids a little closer after that.

its much closer to downtown than wurzbach and i-10

Sorry I missed all this.

I-10 headed downtown is bad, but i-35 headed downtown is worse. It seems to have accidents more often. 281 headed downtown is probably in between the two.

If I can help in any way let me know.

Unless it's an inconvenience, then just ask jk.

i would say so

check out 410 and broadway area, near the airport

the traffic on 281 to downtown is bad in one spot, but thats because of a big curve in the road where everybody slows down....its not a bad drive into downtown

ATTN: Klatt, M.D.!

I haven't read this entire thread, thus risking a nasty letter from the Ministry of Redundancy (next door down from the Ministry of Silly Walks), but I'll chance it...
DO NOT stay on the East Side or anywhere near it. High risk of *crime.
Try to book something decent on IH10 WEST, outside Loop 410, in the Wurzbach or Huebner area...please!

We San Antoniacs want you and/or yours to be safe and enjoy your stay in our uniquely Third World (and rapidly becoming more so, sad to say,) city...I mean "ciudad".

While you're here, remember...."Press Juan for Eengleesh!"

LF

*And if you successfully resist a mugging or an "inconvenience" to your female companion, and especially if you injure or kill the miscreant(s), you'll have Jesse Jack-snnnnnnn up your chute in three hours, tops. That's our East Side, where crime, already omni-present, has skyrocketed since Nawlins sent us her tired, her poor, her soggy, circa Katrina.

Heh.

When we went to Sea World...we stayed at the Omni Hotel.

Nice Place and the kids loved the pool.

They played Family Movies poolside while Mom and Dad could enjoy the Margarita and Daquiri Bar. :D

Estoy tomando mi negocio a otra parte.

It's a done deal: the Studio 6 - Medical Center (Fredericksburg Rd at Callaghan). I'll have to be at the convention center at 8 am or so every morning. Will I be better off taking I-10 or staying on Fredericksburg?

MD,

Good question. My suggestion would be that you scout a location for a decent breakfast DOWNTOWN near the convention center and try to arrive there early. This way, you can take IH10 before it clogs up, eat, get to the gig with less hassle.
If you are off IH10 by 0645 you should be okay. You could take F'burg to IH10, but it's slow going due to traffic lights, etc. It might be worth a try IF you get the early start I recommended.

Getting back: Try to stall leaving downtown until 7PM at the earliest or get outta there prior to 4PM. Remember that Christmas traffic increases the madness starting the day after T'giving.

Good luck and enjoy your stay.
