View Full Version : BCS at large....

(I didn't see this posted in another thread, so if it has been, I apologize.)

Assuming OU beats Baylor & OSU, but Texas beats A&M to get to the CCG...and then loses. Nebraska would then get an automatic bid to the Fiesta. Assuming there was an open selection (ie Boise did not get in, etc etc etc), would the BCS take OU (as a "2" loss team) or Texas (a 3 loss team)? I would assume they would pick OU, since we would have a better record and (theoretically) be ranked higher, but I'm admittedly biased.

Discuss.

We'll be in the BCS whether Texass wins out or not. To many top 10 teams play each other and too many over rated teams play relatively tough games for us to not move up.

Huh?

Assuming I read that post correctly, there are many threads here explaiing the BCS selection process.

The short version is that the Big XII champ usually goes to the Fiesta.

I say if Boise St loses...

OU wins out...

Texas beats A&M....

OU vs Texas in the Fiesta Bowl!

Lets see what OU can do without turnovers and bad calls.

Just wishful thinking.

The only good thing about that would be the image of Mack Brown's face (a la Tom Osborne) when they announce that he has to play us again.

If Ohio St/Michigan winner plays USC in the NC game, and the OSU/Mich loser plays in the Rose, the Rose will still have an at-large. The Rose Bowl would love to have the Big 10 runner-up play a Pac-10 team, but nobody else in the Pac-10 besides USC seems BCS-worthy.

OU-Michigan would be one hell of a great Rose Bowl matchup.

If the Rose Bowl has the option, they will go with Pac-10 vs. Big 10 every single time, no matter how crappy the teams are.

i'd love to play one of these "one loss teams" and b*tch slap them to the tune of 50-0. shut some people up for a while.

They're actually serious in their arguments. No surprise, they tend to favor Oregon as well. Join in the debate.

Please stop. The thought of ND playing OSU/Michigan in Tempe makes me puke.

No worries. ND will lose to USC.

I hope so. And the more 1-loss teams that go down, the better the chances are for OU (I know it's an outside shot) to pick up an at-large. Cheer hard for Nevada to knock off BSU, USC to beat ND, Cal to beat USC, and the SEC to beat each other silly the last few weeks. Oh yeah- and Rutgers lays an egg in Morgantown. I'd like to see Oklahoma get a BCS bid.....well, except for the Fiesta. ;)

Rank/Team/Record/Opponents

1. Ohio State 11-0
2. Michigan 11-0
3. Florida 9-1, W. Carolina, Florida State, possible SEC CCG
4. USC 8-1, Cal, ND, UCLA
5. Arkansas 9-1, Miss St, LSU, possible SEC CCG
6. Notre Dame 9-1, Army, USC
7. Rutgers 9-0, Cincy, Syracuse, West Virginia
8. West Virginia 8-1, Pitt, S Florida, Rutgers
9. LSU 8-2, Ole Miss, Ark,
10. Louisville 8-1, S. Florida, Pitt, UConn
11. Texas 9-2, Texas A&M, possible Big Twelve CCG
12. Wisconsin 10-1, Buffalo
13. Boise State 10-0, Utah St, Nevada
14. Wake Forest 9-1, Va Tech, Maryland
15. Auburn 9-2, Alabama, possible SEC CCG
16. Oklahoma 8-2, Baylor, OSU
17. California 8-2, USC, Stanford
18. Georgia Tech 8-2, Duke, Georgia
19. Virginia Tech 8-2, Wake Forest, Virginia
20. Boston College 8-2, Maryland, Miami

Cal is right behind us and is a good 150 points behind us. Unless they beat USC, they won't jump us. If they do, USC will have two losses at the end of the season and we could jump them.

Auburn is only five points ahead of us, so if we win both games, we can surely make up those five points.

Of the other three SEC teams, Arkansas plays LSU. If Arkansas wins, they go to the SEC game. If LSU wins, Auburn goes to the SEC game (provided they beat Alabama). At least two are guaranteed of two losses, so two are out for sure because you can only have two in the BCS, and one we will probably jump at least one (Auburn), unless they win the SEC CCG. Not sure if we can jump Florida if they lose in the CCG.

Wisconsin is out of the BCS as OSU and Michigan are already in.

If Wake Forest jumps Boise State, BSU is out. This is possible as BSU's SOS is going to be hurt by Utah State and Nevada, and Wake Forest (or whomever wins the ACC) will more than likely jump them as they are the lowest rated Conference champion, unless Nebraska beats Texas in the CCG. We may have to root for Texas against Nebraska if they get past A&M in two weeks.

Would love for someone to double proof this and see if I made any mistakes.

No way we're ranked behind either loser of the Rutgers/WVU game. The loser will fall at least five spots, and we'll jump them.

all good, brother. no matter what, the team is shaping up really well and we're earning the respect we'll need to begin next season highly ranked, either way.

if we take care of business against Baylor and OSU . . . let the chips fall where they may. We'll be playing an excellent opponent in a top tier bowl on New Year's day or later. Given how hard we took it in the rear at Oregon, and with the loss of AD, and with the pre-season phuck-up of THE IDIOT . . . that's pretty darn amazing.
