SOONERS WEEKLY
For the Week of November 13, 2006

SOONERS TAME WILDCATS TWICE
No. 4 OKLAHOMA HOSTS D2 MICHIGAN STATE THIS WEEKEND

THIS WEEK’S GAMES - The University of Oklahoma® hockey club (15-0-0) return home to face ACHA D2 power Michigan State (6-4-0) this weekend in Oklahoma City in a pair of games. The Friday game will begin at 7:30 P.M. while the Saturday contest will have an 8:30 P.M. start. All Sooners home games are played at Blazers Ice Centre, 8000 South I-35, in Oklahoma City. This will be the first time that the Sooners have played Michigan State on the ice.

LAST WEEK’S OU HOCKEY GAMES – Oklahoma traveled to Tucson to take on the No. 11-ranked IceCats from the University of Arizona (7-3-0-1). Friday night was a back and forth affair as the Sooner held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 leads before Arizona would find a way tie the score. Defenseman Robert Hetrick put Oklahoma up for good on a slapshot with just over two minutes to go in the game to give OU a 3-2 win. Saturday, the Sooners scored twice in the second period to break a 2-2 tie and added a goal early in the third to give OU a 5-2 lead. But Arizona battled back and forced the Sooners to hang on late to preserve a 5-4 Oklahoma victory over the IceCats. Dating back to the last game of the 05-06 season, Oklahoma has now won 16 straight games. Only Oklahoma and No. 1 Illinois remain unbeaten in ACHA D1 play this season.

RANKINGS – The Sooners are ranked 4th in the most recent ACHA Coaches Division 1 ranking. The next ACHA D1 ranking is scheduled to be released this Friday.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS – Michigan State is ranked 3rd in the ACHA D2 Central Region and is a member of the Great Midwest Hockey League. Coach James Martin’s club is a perennial D2 power that is used to winning. The Spartans won the ACHA D2 National Championship in 2005 and were in the semifinals of last year’s D2 championship. Their last game was a 22-1 rout of the University of Washington’s D2 squad this past Friday in East Lansing. MSU is 5-2 at home this season and 1-2 on the road. The Spartans have played two games this season against D1 opponents, losing to Eastern Michigan 5-4 and to Western Michigan 5-2. MSU is led in scoring by freshman forward Ryan Hernandez who has five goals and seventeen assists for a total of 22 points. Hernandez is followed by junior defenseman John Perkovich (9-12-21), senior forward Jason Keene (8-9-17), sophomore forward Scott Anderson (12-3-15) and senior forward Mike Mistretta (8-7-15). Sophomore goaltender Justin Sand has been in net for most of the Spartans’ games this season and has a 3.50 goals against average in 6 games.

SOONERS HOME GAMES ON THE AIR – All 2006-2007 OU Hockey home games will be broadcast over the internet this season. Caleb Fox, a senior from Rowlett, Texas, returns to call his second season of play-by-play action for the Sooners. Color commentator Keaton Fuchs, a senior from Norman, also returns this season and is joined by producer/commentator Scott Kingsolver, a senior from Plano, Texas, to bring you another year of hard-hitting, fast-paced Sooners Hockey action over the internet throughout the year.
