Faith No More...yuck. First saw 'em at a Metallica concert in the mid '80s and they were awful live. I only ever liked their one hit.

Now some good '80s hair bands (before 1989 or so)...I still dig 'em. The power ballads, the "W-bands" like Winger, Warrant, etc killed my then-favorite genre of music and for that I'll never forgive them.

Say what you will about Warrant... Uncle Tom's Cabin was a great song. VH1 did that history of metal show a couple months ago... Jani Lane was saying how he wanted to kill himself for ever writing Cherry Pie. Heh.

Skid Row rocked. I mean seriously listen to the songs. They rocked hard. I love that stuff.

I still have a couple of VHS tapes of the first Metal Manias. Back before Headbanger's Ball they just had the specials every once in a while with Dee Snider hosting. I watched them a while back. Very cool.

Man, most of this is lost on me. My "metal" days were short-lived, and more of the Judas Priest, Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Rainbow flavor. I can definitely dig the Dokken link, and Scorpions was, literally the loudest show I've ever seen and ranks high in my memory bank if for nothing other than that.

But about the time you guys were digging on Skid Row I tapped out and switched over almost exclusively to stuff like New Order, the Cure, R.E.M., Pixies, etc. Of course, I did love me some Cult (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_8llRS3LKA). That's right people. How many times do I have to tell you: I like some gay music!

Dude, there is nothing gay about the Cult. Electric is one of the baddest albums ever. EVAR. From start to finish, it pummels you into oblivion with some of the most straight up rock and roll ever conjured up. The version on "Mixed Up" is ten times better than the original IMO. MOF, most of the songs on that album are better than the originals.

Warrant?
Extreme?
Enuff Z'Enuff?

Boo!
Hiss!
Throw rotten fruit!

Czar and VK got a little tipsy last night and started to go down this road, now please let's stick to the bands that have long hair, guitars, drums, and skeelz from now on!

If you need a refresher, here's something to consider:

I consulted the Heavy Metal/Hairband/Guitar Rock Almanac.
Survey says...
Extreme = gheyness

Damn Yankees and Warrant had some talent but the overall product was just wrong. It'd be like putting Yngwie J. Malmsteen in Britney Spears' backup band. It just doesn't work for me.

And, yes I realize the irony in trying to say that the spandex & hairspray bands like Motley Crue and Poison are somehow less ghey.

Nope. The first one I saw was Angry Chair (and is a better song IMO). I don't even remember seeing Man in the Box until a couple of years later.

Indeed you do. I hadn't even heard of the Cult until I saw this video. I thought Ian Astbury was the coolest looking dude on the planet. Though this album isn't near as good as Electric, their image was much improved (in particular Ian).
