I keep on getting this stupid mtherfkn pop-up that says my computer is in danger, it's about to DIE!!!! and I must go to www*msdow.com or some such sh*t and download some frgn mutherfkn antivirus program. How do I get rid of it? Even Ad-Ware won't do.

This is craptacular!

try AVG? I'd try running a couple seperate scans by various adware/spyware/virus scanners to see if one picks it up. Unfortunately, for every piece of malware, there are scanners that won't pick it up.

get a screen-capture of the popup if you can and post it here....might be able to track down what it is from that.

Okay...I will try that.

I can upload the file to imageshack and post the pic, but how do I "capture" it?

dunno how thats done in windows. If you use GIMP (a free photoshop-like program) you can go to file->acquire->screenshot to take a picture. I never really take screenshots except on my linux box, in which case it's simple.

Jerk, When the message pops up, press the Alt key and the Print Scrn key (located at the top toward the right) at the same time. Then go into Windows Paint and do a Paste. Then you can save the file.

it could be that it's not spyware and that you really should click on the ad to remove the bad programs that were previously installed. Did you ever think of that?

You mean when you press Alt PrintScrn nothing happened? It won't - that just pastes the current window to the clipboard (doesn't give you a message). Do a Paste in Paint and you should be good.

Known spyware. They recommend using Windows Defender to clean it. Sounds like it worked for this guy.

By the time Service Pack 2 finishes loading, installing, and recompiling your system, you should be able to buy an anti-spyware program with your Social Security checks.

You didn't have Service Pack 2 yet? That one fixes a LOT of bugs. Probably including the one that let that spyware in...

I recommend going to www.lavasoft.com and downloading free
ad-aware personal SE.
The IT guys at the court put it on our machiones and it seems to work pretty well. I just used it at home to clean up some sh!t off my daugter's Dell.
