Athens — Georgia will kick off the 2007 football season against Oklahoma State in Athens as part of a home-and-home series.

The Cowboys will play at Sanford Stadium on Sept. 1, 2007. Georgia will travel to Stillwater, Okla., for the return game Sept. 5, 2009.

coach Mark Richt said. "It will get everybody's attention. ... If there is anybody who needed a little extra incentive, that game will give it to them."

The letter of agreement between the schools, obtained by the AJC under open-records law, calls for each to be paid $300,000 in travel expenses.

A television deal has not been signed for the games, but ESPN helped broker the series, and it is expected both games will air on the network, Georgia associate athletics director Arthur Johnson said.

If either team backs out of the deal, the agreed-upon penalty is $800,000.

Oklahoma State replaces Oregon State as Georgia's 2007 opponent. The Beavers pulled out of a three-game deal a month ago. The Bulldogs now have non-conference games against Oklahoma State, Troy, Georgia Tech and Western Carolina next season. Only Tech is on the road.

Oklahoma State, a member of the Big 12, is 5-4 this season and is set to return 14 starters, including quarterback Bobby Reid.

OSU is gonna have a bad start to their season next year... (I know UGA sucks this year but they will be back they are young)... UGA is also going to open their Booger Pickens stadium for them, gonna suck to lose their 1st home game. UGA is my second team. Glad to see them coming to pick on Aggy lite. Go Dawgs!

UGA hasn't played outside the South since the 1960's. What a joke.
