Keep an eye out for this one:

http://www.palinforgovernor.com/

She just handily won a governor's race over a very experienced operator in Tony Knowles. She's young, articulate, and has a reputation as being squeaky-clean on ethics. She also won despite having the personal emnity of the GOP chair for Alaska.

There's some speculation that Ted Stevens is going to retire at the end of his current term and endorse her for Senate-which would be right when her term as governor expires.

I, of course, voted for Tony. He's a Sooner fan. But I can live with Palin for the next few years.

I knew absolutely nothing about Palin other than the fact that she was running, won, and apparently not a member of the Murkowski family.

So I've been reading some stuff on her and yeah you're right. This is a woman who could potentially have a very very bright future in the GOP. After this election the GOP is going to need leaders who aren't tainted by the congressional scandals and/or the handling of the Iraq war.

Heh, and yeah that conflict with the state's GOP chair endears me to her even more. You're definitely right...she's definitely a bright star. (and also quite attractive for an older woman).

That's getting pretty damned old. At 40 you're still progressing up the hill but beyond that you're going over the other side at an ever increasing speed until you hit the bottom and it's all over.

Mike, I like reading about young, articulate and successful people. Actually, I'm mostly curious about life in Alaska.

But after reading the links, I have a few questions.

Sarah's husband is also a lifelong Alaskan and is a production operator on the North Slope. Todd and Sarah commercial fish together in Bristol Bay, being joined at their sites with their kids: Track, Bristol, Willow, and Piper.

Sarah served as Chairman of Alaska's Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, which regulates Alaska's most valuable non-renewable resources: oil and gas.

First question, if Sarah Palin’s husband, Todd, is a production operator, why was she chairman of the Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. Or, did I misunderstand what a production operator does?

Second question, why are they commercial fishing together? Joined at their sites by their children? They make the kids catch fish and sell them?

1. If you disqualified anyone with any ties to the oil industry from serving on the oil and gas commission in this state, you'd be left with an O&G Commission that consists of Herb, the old crazy guy who hangs out on the corner.

2. His family has lifelong ties to commercial fishing, and commercial fishing is a family-type operation in Alaska. The kids probably aren't involved in selling the fish-since they're out of Bristol Bay, they probably just sell the fish to Peter Pan Cannery in Dillingham once they bring in the catch.

Well, she'd have my vote based on these three snipets from her website:

GUN RIGHTS - I am a lifetime member of the NRA, I support our Constitutional right to bear arms and am a proponent of gun safety programs for Alaska's youth.

PUBLIC SAFETY - I support adequate funding for a strong public safety presence in Alaska. Feeling safe in our communities is something we cannot accept any compromise on. This includes policing in all its forms, the court system, prosecutors and corrections. If the legislature passed a death penalty law, I would sign it. We have a right to know that someone who rapes and murders a child or kills an innocent person in a drive by shooting will never be able to do that again.

SOCIAL ISSUES - I am pro-life and I believe that marriage should only be between and man and a woman. I am opposed to any expansion of gambling in Alaska.

I've got say that her website is refreshing. She doesn't just give a dusting of her views, but a long list and explanations. Very solid.

I have a prolem with anyone who does this:

Children : Track, Bristol , Willow , Piper

That's just dumb. Who looks at a baby and says "Track. He looks like a Track, doesn't he?"

Heh. No, they're no relation to me. I'm not even a particular fan of hers. I'm impressed with what she's pulled off so far in her career, and I think she's got a chance at being a major GOP player.

I'll buy you a beer if you come through, but Howzit can tell you-I'm hard to pin down during the summer.

Um, she's got some of of Alaskan Indian ancestry. While those would be stupid names here in Collin County, Texas, they ring true for Alaskans, I'll bet.

Alaska Natives are not Indians. At least not her husband's tribe. Different migratory waves over the land bridge.

That very well could be. But I doubt the kids in elementary school will be as knowledgeable on the subject. ;)

Tooooodd. I'm Todd. And this is Blake, and Blaire and Blaine and Brent. Where all these goofy ****ing boys names comin' from. Taylor, Tyler, Jordan, Flynn. These are not real names.

You wanna hear a real name? Eddie. Eddie is a real name, what happened to Eddie he was hear a minute ago. Jackie and Johnny and Tommy and Bill. Danny, Larry, Johnny, and Phil. What happened?

Todd and Cody, and Dillon, and Cameron, and Tucker. Hi Tucker, i'm Todd. Hi Todd, i'm Tucker.

**** Tucker, Tucker sucks. And **** Tuckers friend Kyle. Thats another soft name for a boy. Kyle.
Soft names make soft people. I'll bet you ten times out of ten, Nicky, Vinnie, and Tony would beat the **** out of Todd, Kyle, and Tucker

If Stevens retires, I wonder if there'll be a primary fight between Palin and Don Young?

Mike, am I wrong in assuming Frank Murkowski is done in politics up there?
