No way Mikey was going to go to a B12 school. And I feel kinda sorry for McCarney. Maybe this is another Kragthorpe opportunity.

McCarney is a good man and a good coach. He has done a very good job with the limited opportunities Iowa State has. I mean c'mon, it's Iowa State..If your coach is taking you to bowl games, hes pretty good.

Would McCarney come here as an assistant?

That would suck if they fire him, he's one of the few Big 12 coaches that I admire and respect...

they're stupid if they get rid of him, he's done a great job at ISU.

ISU isn't exactly OU where you have fans (like me) who bitch about the offense after a big win at Texas A&M

Is he an offensive-minded coach, or defensive-minded?

He was DC at Wisconsin before taking the ISU job. ISU has regressed horribly this year, McCarney may have maxed out. They choked away Big XII North Titles that past few years, and the new AD doesn't screw around up there. I think they will make a change, especially if they go winless in conference.

he did pull choke jobs 2 years in a row to not get into the CCG

but the fact that he was in that position is pretty good...

That fact that he was in that position is that three other programs in the North were in sharp decline at that time too. It's more of an indictment of NU,KSU, and CU than a compliment to McCarney.

So he resigns instead......

"It is with sadness that I accept Dan's decision," athletic director Jamie Pollard said. "I had hoped to see coach McCarney lead the Cyclones successfully for many more years.
Sure, that's why you accepted it.

But, it's the true measure of this man that he was unselfish in assessing what was best for Iowa State."
Should've stopped while you were ahead.

they need him, more than he needs them. He's a good coach. I wonder who they will get to carry on that football tradition.

Maybe they can some drunk who is willing to party with the kids, like another coach they had not to long ago.

From what I could tell from their crummy message boards, they were thinking Jim Harbaugh (?), Bo Pelini, Mike Price, and Rick Neuheisel.

They don't have the money to hire any of those guys. Look for a hire similar to Ron Prince as Iowa State's athletic department budget is one of the lowest in the Big 12.

I bet he already has a pretty good job waiting. He was always one of those guys I thought would be very good at a school with athletes. Miami?

Well, One thing for sure...We'll kick the crap out of some different ISU coach all the time!

Seriously...I think they're gonna pull from within the Big XII coordinators.

Venables, Chizik, etc.

Brian Kelly from Central Michigan will be the Guy.

Chizik has stated repeatedly he will not leave the South. I doubt he would leave Texas for ISU anyhow.

The coach at ISU was only making 225,000 a year...WOW. And he had been there 12 years.

whoever they chose, he will need to get along with their big time boosters in bib overalls.
