Looks to me IF we are ever going to break into the TOP 15 - We Need Arkansas - LSU or Tennesse to lose some games - Boise State and Rutgers both without a loss might still keep them in top 15 even IF they lose one...The key to getting in top 15 looks like it's in SEC......!!!

1. Ohio State 17, Illinois 10 - Win

Actually, I've been wondering that myself. We have gone on the road the last two weeks and beaten ranked opponents. Sure the games haven't been all that pretty, but we come away winners, on the road.

I think it's just bad luck that teams above us haven't lost so we can move up a little.

#3 has just as much shot at a championship as #15 as #100. Unless you're Auburn of course and declare yourself champion.

OU doesn't lose again this year, so, by the end, OU will be in the top 10 and Stoops should be named Coach of the Year.

We'll be in the top 15 after this weekend, top 10 before bowl season.

instead of a playoff, there should be requirements for making it to the nat'l championship game:

1- win conference if there is not a conference championship game in your conference.
2- play at least two bcs conference non-conference opponents in your four game non-conf schedule.
3- no b*tching!

#3 is most important.

that's why we have red spek. and this is for the teams, not the fans. Fans are allowed to b*tch as much as they want, especially if they're missing their fish.

Jon Wilner of the SJ Mercury News says it every week - that the Sooners deserve a higher ranking. Still, it bugs me that he still has us ranked 14th.

Teams that should clearly be ranked ahead of us:

1. Ohio State 10-0 .987
2. Michigan 10-0 .971
3. Louisville 8-0 .891
4. Florida 8-1 .802
5. Texas 9-1 .800
6. Auburn 9-1 .781
7. USC 7-1 .745
8. California 8-1 .733
10. West Virginia 7-1 .574

Teams that we are comparable to:

9. Notre Dame 8-1 .732
11. Arkansas 8-1 .572
12. LSU 7-2 .545
13. Rutgers 8-0 .535

Teams that we are clearly better than:

14. Boise State 9-0 .510
15. Wisconsin 9-1 .495
16. Tennessee 7-2 .451
18. Georgia Tech 7-2 .303
19. Wake Forest 8-1 .261
20. Oregon 7-2 .256

I'd say we should be between 10th and 14th--with or without the Oregon debacle.

However, I'd hesitate to say "clearly" better than some of those teams. Basically, I think we're better than everybody from Tennessee up, but I wouldn't say we're "clearly" better than them.

With a Louisville loss and a potential Sooner victory, we may move up this week... depending how far they drop "The 'Ville," of course...

I was torn last night. I wanted Rutgers to win because they have been bad for so long....let me rephrase that....since 1869. On the other hand Louisville losing helps Hook 'em though I can't see how the voters would think they deserve a rematch with Ohio St after getting whipped in Austin. I doubt Louisville falls far enough for us to catch them unless they lose again and now Rutgers will probably be ahead of us in the BCS even if they lose to WV.

Our hopes which weren't huge but were still there for a BCS spot got a little dimmer. Go Air Force! Go San Jose St! Go...cheaters from Eugene!

Well, to my understanding, if Texas sneaks into the MNC (possible with the Louisville loss), and we sneak into the top 12 BCS standings by the end of the year (possible if the pollsters pull their heads out of their ***)...we will automatically be selected to the Fiesta Bowl as the Big-12 replacement (or at least there's a very good chance). Otherwise we're looking at Gator or Cotton depending on who selects first. I'd like a matchup with an SEC team because they will be tougher than an ACC opponent...so I'm hoping for the Cotton Bowl.

BUT this all sucks very much because we're supposed to be a 1 loss team with our one loss being about a 2 touchdown loss to a quality opponent (much like let's say...hmm...Texas who is ranked #4). I think we're top 10 material but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

IMO we need to demolish Tech in order to make a 2-3 spot jump this weekend. We should jump ahead of the loser of Ten/Ark, especially if it's Ten because they are a 2 loss team. We are already close to Wisky in terms of votes...so if they throw up a close win and we win big...or they pull one of their typical conference choke-fests, then we will crack the top 15 this week!

I posted this earlier in the week. If OU wins out, history tells us that we have a 86% chance of finishing in the top 10 and a 70% chance of finishing in the top 8.

OU has a great chance to finish inside the top 10 if we win out. In fact, AP Poll history since the BCS formation in 1998 suggests that OU should finish in the top 10 if we win the next 4 including the bowl game.

Since 1998:

36 BCS conference schools have finished the season with 2 losses.

Out of those 36, 31 have finished ranked in the top 10.

Of the 5 that ranked outside the top 10 ('99 Miss St, '01 Maryland, '01 Illinois, '05 Oregon, '05 UCLA) only MSU and UCLA won their bowl games. However, both MSU and UCLA dropped 2 of their final 3 regular season games those years.

Of the other 31 2-loss teams in the final top 10, here were their rankings:

1. None
2. None
3. 3- '98 FSU, '01 UF, '03 OU
4. 5- '99 Wisc, '01 Tenn, '02 USC, '03 OSU, '04 OSU
5. 5- '99 Mich, '00 FSU, '01 UT, '02 OU, '03 Miami
6. 3- '01 OU, '02 UT, '05 LSU
7. 5- '99 Mich St, '00 Oregon, '02 KSU, '04 UGA, '05 VT
8. 5- '98 UCLA, '00 NU, '01 NU, '01 Iowa, '04 Iowa,
9. 3- '98 GT, '04 Cal, '05 Bama
10. 2- '98 KSU, '01 WSU

Additionally, there have been 13 schools that finished in the top 10 with 3 losses on the season over this time period.

OU will win out and finish the year in the top 10.
