I've heard it smells really bad there, depending on which way the wind is blowing. Blows one way, it smells like cow poops. The wind blows the other way, it smells like an oil refinery.

No oil refineries.

It does occasionally smell like a feedlot when the wind blows from the South, which happens a couple times a month (and whenever the Ags come to town).

For the most part, the weather is really nice. Almost always sunny, and much less humidity that in the rest of Texas.

Okay, just what is a Red Raider. Did they have zorro's out there or what? I understand Longhorns, I understand Aggies, but for the life of me, I don't understand Red Raiders? What are they raiding?

I love Lubbock actually. My wife went to school there and I would go out there at least 2-3 times a month when I was in school. It is laid back and has great weather. I do agree about the smell sometimes, but overall, I love it. Believe it or not, it is one of my favorite places in the country (and yes, I have been to more the three cities:D )

mrfootball,

One thing you have to give tech credit for. They were smart enough to put a statue of an Oklahoman riding a horse in the middle of their courtyard. Will Rodgers was a great man, and a great Oklahoman. Is it true that whenever tech graduates a virgin Will Rogers will get off his horse? :D

I think it was three years ago...I was going to visit friends during their Annual "Chili-Fest". Well...Chili-Fest was cancelled due to a dust storm. It takes 45 minutes to drive across the entire place because it's so spread out and yes, it can smell like **** at times. Sounds like one of the best cities in the US indeed!

mrfootball....

All is well and good with your post.

However, it does not obfuscate the fact that we are going to beat you Yosemite Sam-lookin', red-headed step-Texans like the dust and cow-chip covered doormats that you are in compensation for your Hamburgler-like pilfering of our win against you last year.

That is all....

I just moved from the Lubbock area and worked with nothing but ingnorant Tech fans. West Texas is just on the other side of Hell!!

Dust storms and ignorant fans.

The day after we lost to TCU last year I went in Academy Sports in Lubbock and in the OU section they put a sign with the score!!!

What a bunch of losers.

They used to be the Matadors. "Red Raiders" was a nickname that a radio guy called them eleventy ten years ago and it stuck.

I lived in Norman and near Lubbock and there is not comparsion. You do not get the sand storms in Norman like Lubbock. I have driven in near zero visability conditions just outside Lubbock.

West Texas sucks!

Get a clue!!!!

Anyone who thinks Norman looks like Lubbock - in any way imaginable - deserves to live in west Texas.

the first time I saw west Texas I thought it was the most amazing thing ever--- buildings in the middle of nowhere? Stoplights on corners with buildings on just one side and nothing on the other? Where did all this flat land come from?

Being from Wisconsin, I had never seen so much empty land in my life. That movie about the UTEP guys winning the championship had a good quote--- "We're the first black men on the moon!"
