The No. 4-ranked University of Oklahoma® Hockey club scored early and often tonight against the ACHA D2 team from the University of Minnesota, winning 12-3. Luke Rose got the Sooners on the board just 4:36 into the game and almost a minute later Laddy Tresl scored to give OU an early 2-0 lead. Doug Gebbie scored at 6:26 and Wil Petty notched a goal right before the halfway point of the first period to put OU up 4-0. Minnesota scored to make it 4-1 but Gebbie and Owen Brewer added goals before the first intermission to give Oklahoma a comfortable 6-1 lead after twenty minutes of play. In the second period, Tresl scored his second of the night, Gebbie completed his hat trick and Justin Hall scored while Minnesota added a short-handed goal to make the score 9-1 after 40 minutes of action. A penalty-marred third period saw Danny Force score twice and Phil Ritter scored his first goal of the season for the Sooners. Minnesota also scored in the third period to make tonight’s final 12-3 in favor of the Sooners.
Oklahoma goaltender Chad Helgason stopped 15 of 18 Minnesota shots while Golden Gophers goalie Trevor Fairley saw a lot of action, stopping 37 of the 49 OU shots. OU’s power play was 6 for 18 while Minnesota was 0 for 12 on the power play. The Sooners improve to 12-0-0 on the season. Minnesota now has a record of 3-3-1. The Sooners host Minnesota again Saturday night at 8:30 P.M. at the Blazers Ice Centre.
