Just got this PM:

I just needed to let one of the other posters that I knew to be a Christian what was going on. My son has been admitted to the hospital for the 3rd time in a fairly short period and I'm kind of struggling with it.

I'm banned until tomorrow, so I can ask for prayers myself, but I would appreciate if you would. I really don't think I can wait on them.

sanantoniosooner

Latest news:

They didn't want to take him off the oxygen so they brought in a portable x-ray. According to my wife, whatever they saw has got them talking about putting him in the ICU.

This has to do with an asthma flair up and some kind of infection in his lungs that resulted from being treated with steroid earlier. I'm going to the hospital now.

I talked to SAS on the phone and he said that his 13 year old son has acute asthma and he has been having some lingering problems with his health.

At the hospital, they have him on oxygen and had to take a portable x-ray to look at his chest. He said that his son has a bad infection in his chest. He also said that they will probably place him in ICU.

Update:

My wife just clarified for me that the infection they were treating him for before this was actually in his esophagus from the inhaled steroids. I'm used to everything being lungs with the asthma.

They are going to have him on continuous breathing treatments throughout the night. And they are attempting to break loose some mucous in his lungs with some beating on his back and sides every 6 hours.

Good grief, people.

In twice, SAS. The Lord preserve you and your family.

My own son is on periodic inhaled steroids for his asthma. Now I am very much concerned about its effects. This is one father who is going to become a medical expert in investigating everything about my son's condition.

I just saw this. Looks like everything is going to be OK. That's great. The boy had pneumonia when he was 6 months old and they gave him breathing treatments (albuterol) and had someone come in every few hours to pound him on the back just like you described. I feel for you man, because that was one of the worst weeks of my life.

Tell him he's lucky he's not 6 months old because they couldn't find a vein so they had to stick the IV in his head.

My own son is on periodic inhaled steroids for his asthma. Now I am very much concerned about its effects. This is one father who is going to become a medical expert in investigating everything about my son's condition.

Here is the problem. My son is on Flovent. It is CRITICAL that you rinse your mouth out well after inhaling this produce. The residue coats the mouth and the upper wind pipe. If you don't rinse it out and wash the rest down to the stomach, then you can get this candida infection. I'm sure that the instructions say to do so, but if you child is old enough to take the drugs on their own, you need to also make sure they understand how important it is to follow the instructions completely. Brushing the teeth and/or gargling isn't even a bad idea.

http://www.lef.org/protocols/infections/fungal_infections_candida_01.htm

He was having trouble keeping food down. They finally sent a scope down his throat and even up the rump to verify the problem. This was something he was already being treated for when this latest attack hit.
